So i did all the stuff that i said i was going to do about my car pinging/breaking up passed 5,200rpm. So after i did it i take it out let it warm up, and its running great. I hammer it in first and it pulled hard, it still make a wierd breaking up kinda sounds past 5,000 but it revved hard right past it, i hit 2nd and then 3rd and it revved hard to 6,000 but it sounded a little funny(but not like pinging) past 5k. I come to a stop and its ideling horrible, under my left valve cover its ticking pretty loud. There is no check engine light but when i plug my code reader in it says code 314(Thermactor air system fault/left side) and then it says CYL 8. It doesnt surge or anything just feels like my balancer is messed up or something(idles very rough and shakes) but its not that. My dad says the tickin sounds like a colapsed lifter or bent pushrod. Any help would be great, thanks for reading the whole thing.

Only one way to tell, get under the valve cover or if necessary - the intake. Hope it's a pushrod - lot easier than the lifter.

You were revving the stock heads to 6,000rpms on old stock springs???

May of gotten some bad valve float which could of caused some damage....that could of been the weird sound you heard.

Bent or dropped a valve...bent pushrod...collaped lifter. Hope its none of those, but Tom's right, you need to pull the valve cover and that might not even tell you.

Stock valve train + high miles + 6000 RPM == bad juju... I wouldn't do that with any regularity .

sucks dude. I know the feeling.

when I bought the car the owner had "upgraded" the springs. He put crane double springs on stock seats I broke lots and lots of springs and a pushrod all in separate instances before I finally figured everything out.

thing is it would still drive, but all the inside springs were cracking because their installed spring height was way to high

Well i took it by JBA racing today. And they are pretty positive that it is a broken valve spring. So me and my dad are going to get 16 new valve spring, and i want to get some 1.7 rockers since we have to remove the stock ones any ways. So which ones should i get? Will they fit under my stock valve covers? Thanks guys.

I was going to offer you one valve spring to get you by. I broke one and had to buy a whole set. I have 15 Steeda Hi-rev valve springs in my attic for the last 3 years.

Depends on how much you want to spend. The Comp Cams Magnum ones aren't too expensive (~$160). Aluminum ones will cost at least $200. My favorite are the Steeda shaft mounted rockers, but I don't know if they're that good, I just think they're really cool.
