ok...my exhaust is gettin very very annoying

alright...ive been through 2 exhausts. bbk shorty headers with a mac o/r hpipe and stock catback with flows. now im on to mac LT's and a mac o/r hpipe with same catback. well my problem is....i cant get my exhaust to stay sealed. i mean, its not a massive massive leak but its enough to definately lose power and sound bad. now is there a gasket that is made of metal to stand up to the heat but will work with out ball and socket joint type of exhaust we have. someone at an exhaust shop gave me something that looks like what i want but i tried it and the piece was just about 1/4" of an inch too short on the sides. i mean, it was perfect but just not enough material on the sides. does anyone have a place to get gaskets from or what i could make my own out of...in the next post i will show a pic of what i mean that i made in Paint.

alright...the first one is what i had and it didnt work...leaked on the top and bottom. the one on the left would work perfect but i cant find it anywhere and no one knows of anything like it. this would make my problem go away for sure. any help will be appreciated a ton

Try this gasket...the number on the bag should be good at any parts place...its 2 1/2" I.D.



Install like so....cut the bolt holes off, loosen up the connection, slide it in and reef it up...these are what i use....
As you can see...that bolts been reefed on.... It doesnt help, but the gasket works....this is Mac to Mac Prochamber..might help you out...$3.00 each or so...

31540??? is that a rubber gasket or metal?? that looks perfect tho. no parts store has ever had any idea of what i asked tho

There is supposed to be a gasket between the headers and the H-pipe?

no but mine wont seal up right...i need something in there cause there is a leak that wont go away no matter what

Its an asbestos or exhaust material and has an aluminum middle...the mother will not burn thru...i get like 2 years out of a set....they're like 1/16" thick...

lol...well what is the number again ?>?? was i right?? ill pick that sucker up tomorrow if thats right. where did you get it from tho?? napa, autozone, pep boys.....

I would say you have the number right as you said above...they'll be able to tell...it a common gasket...I usually get all my stuff at Napa, but this one i scammed at another no-name parts store....they carry all Fel-Pro, so I'm a regular....
Mine had like a piss leak..i could see water dripping out at start-up, so i knew i had a small leak...ball and sockets arent always a perfect fit...I tryed like 4 types...this one fits and works the best...

awesome...you will be my savior if this works cause ive been "pissing away" hp for awhile this this leak. its nothing huge but i can feel a diff when i put a paper gasket there for a day or two before it burns up and starts leakin again. thanx a ton man.

Hazmat404, Have you ever had an exhaust shop look at it. I know some shops in our area wont even look at it when they see the o/r h-pipe. But give that a shot, they usually can seal that stuff up with no problem. I had a nasty leak with my exhaust but that naperville exhaust works cleared up in one minute. No gaskets or anything.

I have never had a problem with leaking minus the nut that connects the heder collector to the H-pipe falling off so I just went to a place and got a locking crimped type nut fixed the problem but then the passanger side was leaking. That was with stock headers and Mac O/R H-pipe. I'm now installing BBK headers next weekend so we will see what happens .

well autozone and pep boys didnt have them (it was after 8pm so all the other good stores were closed)....hopefully napa or a carquest has them. ill check tomorrow

I'll bring this thread back from the recently deceased . Did you ever find this gasket? I'm going to try to find some tomorrow, because all four ball & socket joints on my exhaust seem to have been leaking to some extent (have lots o' soot where it don't belong), and one of them pretty badly...

Graphite gasket material works great and will resist high temperatures.

I would buy a sheet from McMaster Carr:

Part #95715K63 is a 12"^2 sheet, 1/8" thick. That should do the trick. It's a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for.

i used some exhaust sealer goop from the parts store, just spread it around on the ball part, let it start to set up and then install. been fine for 50k miles.

also try expanding the socket part of the h-pipe with some pliers a bit to make it a bit larger, worked on the wifes 01.

I'll let you know. I'm going to hit NAPA & Baxter's today to see if I can find these or something very similar. If I can't find em, I'm going to slather on a whole bunch of Ultra Copper and then PM you...
