OK need some info or I am going to set it on fire

I need info > which side on a 96 mustang gt is bank 1 and bank 2 for the o2 sensor ?
my check engine light is on and it telling me i have a low catalist on bank 2 > i changed both O2 sensors on the passanger side but it's still on. did I change the wrong side ?

second is what rear (lower) o2 sensor plug go's to which side ? have a purple plug and a blue plug > I just want to make sure there pluged in to the right ( proper side ) .

For reference, bank 1 is always the bank with cylinder #1 on it. For the 4.6 modular engine then, this is the passenger side.

Sounds like a catalyst problem. Even if the car has cats, it's not uncommon for aftermarket cats to be less than effective, especially the high-flow types used on performance midpipes. For example, my GT failed an emissions sniffer test with an MRT catted H-pipe. When I swapped in my original 4-cat factory pipe, some of the parameters measured dropped by two orders of magnitude (100x) and the car easily passed. The pipe had cats but they weren't doing much.

You might think about putting in some MIL eliminators...

bank 2 is drivers side on our cars and as stated above 99% of catylist codes are caused by a bad cat. if you are using an aftermarket cat you may want to use mil eliminators or if you have a tuner you can turn off the rear o2's all together.

what were all of your codes???????/

If you've had a dyno tune, chances are the tuner already turned off the MIL code for the rear O2s. Are you still running the factory tune?

And the rear O2s don't affect fuel trims BTW; the rears are there solely to check the operation of the cats.

when i turn my rears off it sets front 02 codes for lean/rich,,,guess when they are off they read rich and would that be the need for eliminators???????

does any one have the spec's or a diagram on how to make or get the MIL elimanators ?
Will using them hurt my gas mileage ?/ and will it show a code during a emissions test?

An eliminator is nothing more than a simple low-pass filter made with two electronic components; a capacitor and a resistor. The O2 sensor wiring is modified by cutting the signal wire and exposing the signal ground wire on the sensor. The resistor, typically a 1-megohm 5% part such as an SFR16-style, is put in series in the signal wire. The capacitor, a 0.1uF 16V ceramic will do, is connected between the PCM-side of the resistor and the ground lead. The resulting wiring is tidied up and sealed against the elements with tape (etc).

With a MIL you shouldn't see any change in fuel economy because the rear O2s are not used in the fuel trim logic. They're purely a cat-efficiency sensor.

If the eliminator is working properly, you won't get any codes.

I had the same problems with my exhaust when I first put it on. and when I would re tune the vehicle with the old crap tuner I had... Now I just have the REAR o2's Turned off electronically with the XCal 3

all the codes

well I'm going to change the driver side o2 sensors and if it (the code) comes back after that > then I'll have to make or buy some mill elimanators > THANKS FOR THE HELP GUY,S> I REALLY NEEDED IT > jeremy

changing the o2s are ok but what were your codes..was it just 420 or did others show up also...with multiple codes sometimes the o2s are not at fault,,, also a full discription helps for better replys

I only had the one code > but it came up twice > code 420 or 430 >I don't remimber whitch one >It said low thresh hold of catalist> but they were the factory o2's that had been removed from the stock h-pipe to be put in to my BBK x-pipe > so they might have been damaged during the swap > who knows > so I blanked it out today and change both driver side o2's > so tomorrow i'll drive it some and see what happens > and go from there > I HATE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT !!!! SO I HAVE TO FIX IT SO IT WILL GO OUT> I also have to find a passanger side air bag for my car > the bag was deployed and the light makes me CRAZY
