That's new to me. The only method I've ever heard of working is heating the sensor to clean it off. This can be done by removing the sensor and hitting it with a torch, or (in the older days), by introducing a huge vac leak. This would heat EGT's up and help burn deposits off the Lambda sensor.
You can check them for switching and amplitude (seeing it range from ~0.1-1.0 volts, a couple times a second).
