I'm buying up all the parts for my 31 spline setup - so far I have a set of alloy USA axles and 31 spline trak-loc diff - now all I need is to get a set of gears and a full master install/bearing kit.

First off, how are the Motive Install kits, and for that matter Motive gears period? I know I know, some say they are great, some say they whine and suck. Personally I believe its all in how well it's setup and such... Up side to motive is I could get some 3.90's and have the best of both 3.73's and 4.10's hehe.

So, yeah, how are they? Wheres the cheapest place to get a set? Is there an Ford motorsports full install/bearing kit, if so whats the part#?

Get FRPP gears, that is the most popular, error free gear to go with. Ford does make a bearing install kit, not sure of the number though.

If you want 3.90's pro 5.0 makes some, id get those over the motives...

Why would you get those over motives, have you ever USED motive gears - or is this just pure speculation? Motives used to be the hot ticket, now the consensus seems to be that they sux0r...

Doesn't motive make FRPP's and stuff anyway, so the only difference would be in the manufacturing tolerences, not the quality of the gear? So...then with proper install they should be able to be shimmed fine...

Who has motive gears or has had motive gears; show of hands?

Go with 3.73s mang. Your already trapping 110. 3.73s would put you around 120 @ 6000RPM.
4.10s are around 110.
So 3.90s would be around 115 @ 6K.

You really dont want to be crossing the traps @ 6K on a stock motor...give yourself some growing room . JMO though.

Mustangtuning or "americanmuscle.com" now has good prices on top of the fact that if you type in americanmuscle no spaces this week u get 10% off they sell FRPP and motive 3.90s. I'd go 3.90's if u don't mind motives, but 3.73's otherwise w/ your set up as previously stated

Well will you always run them at the track? 27s a bit odd....but it will work perfectly at the track.

Just remember once you put your 26 inch, it will be geared a bit lower on the street....and you cant make a full pass in full street trim if you want to.

Im not a fan of running larger rear tires to gear your car correctly...I like my car running the same all the time. So if I want to run it with some 17 inch DRs, then I can....dont have to worry about running out of gear.

I would say to gear your car correctly for the track now, since it wont cost anything. Remember, your car will just get faster from this point on...dont want to cap yourself ya know. JMO.

27 ich slicks W/ 3.73s should = 125MPH trapps @ 6K . That extra 5MPH definatly comes in handy if you swap pullies, or get an IC, ect.

FRPP 3.73's are the way to go with your Vortech S-trim.

I have a built motor with a v2 s trim and i put down 360rwhp and I have 3;90 gears I love them I cruise at 70mpn at 2500 rpm. 3;90 is perfect in my opnion. Its not too much and more then enough. I got the motive gears and motive bearing install kit and it all looked great really good stuff.

You have a built motor and only put down 360? Most of us with mongoose kits on stock motors put down 350+.

Hey benny.. go 3.90's! But that's just my opinion

Ask Helty.. he will be able to tell you which will be better since he's got a Vortech SQ and 3.73's, he's the man!

Shouldnt be a problem, but you can get a rebuild kit from Randy Stinchcomb at Liberty Ford.

what do most people with a blower trap at? Are 3.90s really at the end of gear on the 1320 with a blower?

Depends on how much power they have, gears, tires, altitude etc... I usually trapped between 112mph and 114mph with 3.55's and cobra IRS with 26" drag radial 0 but for some reason my best ET's were always between 108 (all time best was) and 110. I ran my best times ever on a pro tree, too
