Good analogy on the men-holding-hands thing. The Fox was a generation in its own right, and doesn't blend well retroactively like the new 05+ models (which were designed to look retro from the get-go). I've pretty much decided to leave my new LX lenses as-is, except maybe to tint them later on at some point and/or do a little horizontal Cobra-esque striping for the heckuvit.
I do, however, wish I could find a nice NASCAR-ish lip spoiler like that on the '79 pictured above, but for a notchback. Something simple and subtle, and not so heavy that the trunk can't stay open (like a friggin' Saleen whale tail).
