Hey I was just wondering if anyone has put a fox AOD in a 94 5.0 or if anyone has any information on this subject. Im pretty sure the driveshaft length and gear is the same, but would the shifter be in the right location even if I used an aftermarket shifter? I ask this because I know the bell housing is longer on 94 transmissions compared to the fox ones. But any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I don't know about the driveshaft length, or bellhousing issues, but in order to do it, you'd have to run the T4M0 or J4J1 (5 speed GT, or Cobra) computers, or disable the auto transmission function in the auto EEC. You'd also probably need to do the Fox throttle body swap, or find a way to adapt a TV cable to the SN throttle body for the AOD. You could have the shifter come up wherever you like, since it's attached to the transmission with a cable. Why not run an AODE, if you're planning an auto conversion? It's a superior transmission to the AOD, even though they're nearly identical, since you can set shift points, etc with a tune.

I actually don't want an AODE for that reason. Shifting an electronically controlled auto manually breaks it, and I would have to go get the car retuned again. I want to use an AOD because I plan on just getting a junkyard one, having it rebuilt with a shift kit, and probably purchasing a 2000rpm stall or similar along with it. Oh and what you were saying with the computer my car is already a 5spd so wouldn't the 5 speed computer be fine with the AOD? Also I was wondering would I need to take out the pilot bearing out of the crank if i went from manual to auto or it doesn't interface with the auto ?

You'll be fine with the computer you're running. I'm not certain, but I believe you can manually shift an AODE with no ill effects. Someone with more auto experience will have to comment on that for sure. Why not get a TwEECer and pick up an auto computer that you can have a tune for specific shift points when racing? Then you don't have to do a thing except go straight and hold on.

well I am not real familiar with the AODE so you may be able to shift it and not hurt it, but I got the impression that any electronically controlled auto will break if you shift it or at least the shifting im talking about. I had a 99 grand am v6 auto and I down shifted then floored it occasionally and the transmission went out lol. What is nice about a older transmission like the AOD is I can put a semi-manual valve body in it and a shift kit so the car will shift itself during normal driving but then when I am racing someone or want to down shift the car I can shift it will little or no delay and then it shifts gears the quickest possible. I have been reading up more on the difference in bell housings, and I guess the only reason the earlier T-5s don't fit in the 94 is their bell housings are deeper with a longer input shaft to move the shifter further back cause it is in a different location than the foxbody. So I think the AOD should be fine as far as the drive shaft fitting. So I guess the only thing I am concerned about now is the throttle valve cable. Does it go into a hole in the throttle body and attach to the blade and interface with that somehow or is it just attached to the throttle linkage on older foxes? Im guessing somebody on here has put a C4 in a SN95 to hold serious horsepower, and i assume thats a pretty similar setup, anyone got ideas on how to rig the throttle valve cable on a 94?
