my cousin is (supposedly) going to build a 347 with a blower. i told him to scrap his hooker shorties and head up some long tubes. he says no benefits, i say other wise.
any input?

Is this John?

Anyway, the shorties will work fine. I would weld up the tubes on the outside at the flange and then port the inside to open them up to the true diameter. Look inside almost any shorty header and you will see the weld takes up a lot of the area, modifing it will greatly help.

Seen over 800RWHP through a shorty header on a big blower car, a swap to a long tube only gained 9hp in the upper rpms....makes you think doesn't it?

I agree with Rick. I am good friends with Renegade Racer Bart Tobener and he has told me about the same thing.

long tubes are a definite unless he likes losing 40horses
your kidding right????? maybe if the motor in question is a 2000hp beast, you aint picking up any 40hp going from shorties to long tubes. And i prefer long tubes, been running a pair of Mac 1 5/8" for 8yrs now

I agree. One of my friends has a 331 with a 14psi S-trim and he has the same 1 5/8" Motorsports headers that I have. blown1989saleen, how is your new shortblock holding up?

Sorry but when i think of a blown 347 I think of like 850rwhp, so if you had shorties I would think you could easily gain 40hp with longtubes on a restricted motor.
