It's not the first mustang "THE FIRST MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE BUILT ON THE FIRST DAY OF PRODUCTION! ALSO THE FIRST MUSTANG SOLD TO THE PUBLIC!". it's rare because it's the first convertible produced but it's not the very first mustang to roll off the line. It's got nice history but seems a little pricey for what they want.

No, I'm pretty sure it is #1. Mustang #1 has been in private hands since 1964, probably on loan to the Henry Ford museum. I guess someone needs money.

if you read the add it wasnt the first mustang produced, there was a limited run of cars built to promote the new model. this car was the first car off the line of the cars produced for public sale, and it was the first on sold being delivered the night before official sales began.

The article is quite contradictive. It says it was one of the 185 that were not for street use, yet it gets sold to the public. Wouldn't that mean it has a VIN? If it does, then it is not 5F08F100001, 6, 7, or 8. I'd assume that they preceeded this one if that is the case. Something smells fishy.

They are a well known collectors car shop and well liked so I dont think there is any BS going on here. Truth be told if I was a multi millionair (ie: 500 or more mill) I would add it to the collection, true its not as special as the first Honda Civic, but I want alot of different Mustangs and this is a piece of American history. RS200 you always impress me with the car knowledge you have and I thought I had alot of useless info stored in the mush mellon I call my brain, but you do seem to lack passion for Stangs as most of us here have. I could be wrong but you seem to like imports ALOT more, not dissing you or anything, its just an observation.

Not at all. I think I have more respect for sport compacts because my 5.0 was such a turd. I probably had $15k (cdn mind you) in my car, and the best I could shake out of it was a 14.39 @ 92. I had a turbo setup, but the car would have needed so many supporting mods to get it done, I thought it was a waste of time and (lots of) money. I sold it for $4500 in August, plus another $300 for the kit to return the car to 4 lug. The next week I took that money and bought a 1998 Neon R/T out of Denver for $4500 that ran 13.81 @ 112 with a 2.4 60' (owner couldn't race FWD), not to mention it's one of the cleanest and best maintained cars I've ever seen. It also came with SRT4 internals in the trunk so I could boost past 8 psi. Regardless, whenever I see a Mustang on Pinks, to me it's still the favorite.

My dad and I restore Mustangs out of our garage. I still have my '64 coupe sitting in a barn waiting for the time to restore it. Right now in our garage with have a 1965 K-Code fastback, just doing the sheetmetal work. There are 5 more after it. There is still lots of Mustang in me.

$15K Canadian huh, well I guess I would be mad too if I had $46.25 invested in mine too and it only ran mis 14's. JK Ive had Foxes that ran great and had all kind of mods but were slow as hell and Ive had others almost stock running 13.5-13.6 all day and could be quicker if I could launch better. I am great on road courses but never been quick on the 1/4, cant seem to hit the sweet spot for launching. I posted a a thread a month bach with my almost stock AOD 89 GT and was out running Miatas, Jettas, a couple WRXs and even a Porsche 911 with a 383 v-8 conversion on a SCCA track. Everybody rags on the Fox handling but with decent tires and some simple mods they can be terrors on a road course.

BTW RS200 what are you driving now? Stipp the peon or did you get another Stang yet?

OK, I'll arm strtrcr50 with some info here. I have:

1997 Neon Sport - designated crapbox (dd)
1998 Neon R/T - Fun car
1995 Civic CX - backup for the dd. Will probably be selling.
1990 Mazda RX-7 - decent idea gone somewhat wrong. Will be selling this spring.
1964 Mustang Coupe - bought when 13. In a barn.

My 5.0 had a built AOD. I probably could have turned a slightly faster time if I put the shift points in the right place, but it was just a money trap. It still had rust despite doing the bodywork twice. The buyer was a bodyman, so it's in good hands now. He bought a supercharger for it a few weeks later. Once a car is driven in salt, it's finished.

At the present time, I'm not looking at getting another 5.0. My turbo Neon is doing great, and I can do great things with it. It was set up for open track racing, but I've never had a chance to take corners with it seeing as how I first drove it in a snowstorm. It went to storage a week later. I just saw a 1999 Porsche 911 on eBay for $18900 (that's like $18500 canadian now!), so that's a possibility for the near future. I had a 944 about 2 or 3 years ago, and I thought it was a great car despite being hellaciously slow. Ideally, I'd like to find a Ferrari 355 that's fallen on hard times (except for flooding). Collision repair isn't that difficult, and the savings are huge on exotics.

Overall, the main difference between me and Stangnet is that I'm not brand loyal. I was when I started, but now it's fair game.

I don't think it was one of the 185, I read it as being the first produced for sale. I think I read the first 185 were used for crash testing and other reasons.

I do agree with some of you though, I think this car is way over priced for what it is. It's not the first mustang, it's the first convertible built for the public, which means they probably ran off a few thousand coupes first so the VIN won't be ...0001.

It is a rare car though being the first vert for the public, but it's no more rare than any other first car model. I think at a barret jackson auction this car wouldn't get more than 2 mil. and would probably be more like around 800k.
