That's what I was thinking. However when I did mine I soaked the clutches but I never dumped any of it in with the gear oil.

You may want to put some in. I don't know exactly what it does but i have heard that it is important.

I believe UnderPressureGt has a true posi rear end and he has a street car.

for the sake of semantics, why dont we call what some people on this thread are calling a "true posi" (which i have ALWAYS known to be a limited slip diff, BTW) a LOCKER. it seems like that is what people on this thread mean about having the axles rotate at the same rate at all times. people on here do drive lockers on the street - just dont plan on tight U-turns or sweet parking lot maneuvers.

the friction modifier actually helps the clutches slip a little. if one does not use it, the clutches can chatter in turns. some autocrossers omit the modifier (they could care less about noise), but with no modifier (and all else being equal), it is like rebuilding the TL tighter.

because posi IS true posi. People see both tires are burning rubber on a limited slip axel and the think its posi so thats how the name changed.

i think that all you people saying both axles ALWAYS turn at the same speed are talking about spools. Spools lock the axles together. A locker uses toothed gears to drive both axles but differentiates axle speeds in the corners, although they have quite a bit of gear lash. Posi-Trak/Limited Slip uses clutch plates to spin boht axles yet disengage smoothly to allow conering.

what the hell. so what dose the stock diff. do? I can drop the clutch on my car anywere from 1800 rpms and both tires always spin. even when one is on snow and one is on wet pavement. it is a stock diff.

Stock is a limited slip set up. it uses clutches and a spring to force both axel's to spin except when turning or conering in any way.

my head hurts

Just rebuild it using the extra clutch method and be done with it. $50 and street driveablity while both tires work in a straight line and differentiate in corners like it's supposed to.

You can still Drive "TRUE POSI" on the street, unless you are refering to the GM method of welding spider gears in which case I wouldn't drive it any where.

Thats called a spool and it can still be driven on the street, slowly around turns, it sucks but it can be done.

Yes but we are driving on the street. You need the car to be drivable.

Im just referring to the guy talking about "true posi" lol. It's not "streetable" but I have seen it done. Doing it and calling you car a REAL street car is bull***** though!

I agree with you 100%. It can be done but not made for the street.

It allows the clutches to slip. Keeps them from chattering when cornering. I figure without it everything should lock up a little better. Not sure if anyone else did the same thing? I figure soaking them was enough.
