opening day of dragstrip! times sucked

Beautiful weather for opening day but didnt quite run what i was expecting.. My first pass was a 13.79 with a 2.100 60 FT at 101mph. I thought i could only get better right? Every run got worse. i did a 14.5 with a 60 ft of 2.500 at 99 mph.. I spun through 2nd. I have a JLT ram air intake, SCT tune with 2 step at 3000 but i was only launching at like 1400. Pypes o/r X and catback, 4.10 gears and 315 tires on the back.. Where should i go from here to get in the low 13's consistent? My friend had the same mods as me without 4.10's and he was running 13.1's pretty consistent so i think im there performance wise i just gotta hook up and go.

Your first pass sounds pretty decent.

There's not much that anyone can tell you over the internet. Sounds like you just need more seat time, and maybe a better set of tires.

What was your reaction times? Consistent reaction times + low 60 ft is what you are looking for.

Get that 60ft to at least a 1.8 and your good to go

on the 13.7 run it was .370. Most of them were right around there. I'm getting a pair of MT 26x10x15 slicks and control arms this week. So hopefully i will notice some difference. Its funny though because i could launch fine then the top of first and going into second id bust sideways lol i was so pissed.

What kind of tires do you have? You might have to figure out if you need more or less heat on your tires?

315/35/17 Sumitomo lol I didnt do TOO big of a burnout. I didnt let any air out either so they had about 32 pounds in them

If all you are wanting is to get your best possible et, don't worry about reaction time at all. YOu can sit on the starting line with the light green for 10 minutes and it won't change your et one bit. Basically what I'm trying to say is don't worry about catching a good light, just relax and launch the car when you are comfortable and ready.

As said above, you are likely going to need some drag radials or something to make the car consistently run the numbers you are looking for.

Make sure you also get a drive shaft loop, as I am almost certain they are required for slicks.

Edit: Spend the $150 and get the SLP line lock from Summit racing. Comes with everything you need. IMO, it's the best money you can spend for drag racing.

Yup, i got the driveshaft loop as well. And im most certainly getting the linelock soon enough.. I racked up quite a bill over the past 2 months with gears, gauges and tires and then on top of that a crack manifold haha So i added it to the wish list

I got a question, why do you need slicks? I ran a 13.3 w/ stock 245/45/17 w/ a 1.9 60ft, also my brother ran 13.0 w/ a 1.89 60ft w/ 3.73 gears and the same tire size as above. With what you got you should be able to run mid-low 13s on street tires. This comes from a guy getting ready to run in the tens on those same tires

yes steeda, im there every year!! I usually post up at the corner at wawa like in front of CVS. 80 days and counting! haha and thats amazing your doing that on those tires.. maybe i just need to learn to race better lol i was launching at like 1500 and spinning through 2nd so i just assumed slicks would help.. I ended up getting 28x11.50 MT's going on 15x10 Summit Quick 8's

we'll have to meet up, im in salisbury so its a 20 minute drive for me. ill be with a few other mustangs as well, it always seems to be an awesome time

It is complete overkill and way too much tire. Going with a 28 inch tire will completely nullify your advantages of 4.10 gearing. It is also a heavier tire. You are going to hurt your gearing with the taller tire.

At your power level, you want a true 26 inch tall tire. Lots of guys cutting 1.2-1.3 60ft on MT and Hoosier 26 inch Drag Radials, and running 8-9 second passes.

For Drag racing, you want the smallest/lightest possible tire that hooks to maximize gearing, rotational weight, etc. I would have suggested a 275/40/17 ET street Drag Radial. It's what I run and has no problem hooking at 700hp. An even better tire is the Hoosier 275/40/17. I don't really think you need 15 inch slicks yet. If you are set on 15 inch tires, I would go with the 26/10.50/15 ET streets.

The new generation of drag radials are really awesome. They allow 60ft times and consistancy that the older generation of drag radials couldn't do. Then you get the benefit of driving to and from the track with them.

luckily i didnt order yet cause i had a question on the backspacing.. I have a 315/35/17 sumihomo on it now and it wouldnt hook.. i was sideways man lol so i just naturally thought, hey i need slicks. But its starting to seem like i didnt heat them up enough and i had like 32 psi in them.. Im going to get upper and lower control arms and lower the psi and do one hell of a burnout this week and see what happens?
