I am wanting some opinions from the guys or gals who have done this.I have a local engine builder who is highly recommended for his work.Everyone has told me that he does what he says and does not cut any corners.I called him to get a quote for my 92 fox to have around 350-375hp.He told me he could accomplish that with a top end build for about 3000 dollars(turn key job).He had a concern about the motor having over 200000 miles on it and said he could not guarantee how long the bottom end would hold up.He then told me that for around 5000 dollars he could build me a 347 stroker(turn key job also). He said with that build everything would be new(entire motor). My concern is that a good deal and also what kind of difference in power that would be.I want a fast street car and he said it would be a bad SOB with that motor.Talk to me guys.

What kind of parts is he using? What heads, pistons, rods, heads, cam, intake, etc?

I'm with him ^^^^ What is going to be in the engine? I already have over $5K in my stroker build and I still need some misc parts (rockers, pushrods, headbolts, valve covers, etc.).

He didn't say,but I havn't heard anything negative from the people I know that have cars built by him.All I can say is that everyone says he is top notch.Let's assume he is using good stuff for this thread and I will ask him later this week and update.

He is a retired fleet services mechanic who has been building racecars since he retired years ago.

Well, I agree with him about not wanting to put a new top end on a 220k shortblock. However, it's impossible to tell you if something is a good deal without ANY information about the parts being used. $5k is probably a typical price for a stock b-based stroker engine with decent internals.

This is a turn key job.I'll drive the car to him in stock condition and drive it back home with 347 stroker when he's done.

Sounds too good to be true.
Way too good to be true.

Figure a good top end is at least $3000 with injectors and meter.
You are already at 60% of the total and you haven't even done any labor, bought a 347 rotating assembly or begun to pay the machine shop.

With the numbers he's giving you, i think you should pass.

That is awfully cheap for a turn key setup. He is going to have to cut corners somewhere to make a profit.
