I'm looking for a 9" for my '65 Mustang. I found a '57 Ford 9" for $400 complete. Is this worth the money ? What else will I have to spend ? I know I'll want a new pumpkin with posi and lower gears, and will replace the wheel bearings as well. Anything I'm forgetting ? Should I keep looking for a less expensive one ? Thanks :)

400 sounds okay for a stock-geared open rear in useable condition. I had a Versailles rear in my '65 and that was something like 350 without the pumpkin and another 350 for a used, 31 spline, 3.50 geared T-Lok center. Then another 300 for axles when I didnt realize the housing came with 28s.

Luckly my old man has two '57 Custom 300s, one destined to be sold as a parts car. He'll let me trade my 8" for the 9" he decides not to use. :nice:

$400 complete is a good price. you can sell the center section to recoup some of that price, and you dont have to pay for narrowing the housing or axles as the housing bolts in place of the stock 8" rear.

That's a good price, although I got mine for free... :D I will have to R&R it, so I'll have some $$$ in it by the time it goes in.

I once paid $375 for a Versailles rear in the late 80's/early 90's and it was a deal as most went for $400-$450.

The '57-'59 rear is a bolt in and looks like the 9" housing that went into the Shelby's except for the dimples.

57 rearend

I got mine for 200 with 350 chunk and i ended up using my 8 inch axles bc something would not work right with my brakes. I think that 400 is a little high and you can find one cheaper. Make sure you get it out of a car if you want to use your old axles.
