Oppinion on exhaust.What should I do?

I currently have an X pipe on my 94gt with magnaflow exhaust.I was thinking about taking off the mufflers and putting straight pipes on it or just get magna packs.What do you guys think will sound better and more meaner?

So I will lose hp if I take the mufflers off?
How about magnapacks? Will I lose hp with those?

I think you lose more TQ than HP from removing mufflers. I would look into some magnapacks/SLP mufflers or maybe even dump the exhaust if you really want something louder. Yeah, you will have a gas smell and yeah some dont like the dumps but some do like it and the downsides dont bother them. That may be a cheap route for you to look at.

And to be fair, I have heard people that like the sound of straight pipes. Your opinion on the sound is all relative to what floats your boat. That too may be something you can look into cheaply and easily just to see if its for you.

One other thing, not trying to flame. But these numbers that everyone uses as their bible in the sticky are from a magazine. Magazines are rarely accurate and often biased. Take all those numbers with a grain of salt. I'm sure they are good to give you an idea but I wouldnt lay my life on the line that they are completely accurate.

Around how much are magnapacks? SLP mufflers?
I won't lose any hp or tq with thease will I?

Those two are supposed to be some of the freest flowing mufflers available i believe. You wont lose anything with them.

Not sure on the costs.

then again, since hp=torque*rpms/5252, it follows that a drop in torque implies a drop in hp as well.

i am of the opinion that torque is more valuable than hp.

Doesnt always work that way otherwise all cars would have an exact HP to TQ ratio. Unfortunately you find cars with 400 HP and 500 ft/lbs and some cars with 400 HP and 400 ft/lbs. You can also get your peak HP at one RPM while getting your peak TQ at another.

But yes, TQ is way more important especially for a streetable car riding around town.
