If someone could find the thread, I'd love to read it.

Still wouldn't blame it on ALL Optima batteries though. I've heard nothing but GREAT things about 'em. My personal experience included.

I'm looking for it, but I cannot find it. It was a beautiful grey fox body GT, it was something the guy just got, first test drive, before and after pics....it was sad...he had to have spent a fortune on the car.....anyone else know the thread???

If you saw the car you would understand the loss. The guy took the car out for the first ride, pulled in in the garage and then it was gone. That was enough for me not to waste my money on a 150-190 dollar battery.

I saw the car, and it was a great loss. That doesn’t change the fact that there was no proof that the battery directly caused the fire. It's quite possible that something else triggered the battery…and it was simply a victim of circumstance.

Your also basing your decision on ONE example of an apparent catastrophic failure. There is not nearly enough information to deem the battery as a hazzard. As previously stated, I've seen the aftermath from standard lead acid battery explosions. That does not mean however that the brand in question was responsible…nor did it mean the battery was necessarily to blame.

Well see i'm just trying to put the battery in my hatch spare tire well. So i need a optima battery cause you can lay it on its side. I have a interstate right now and thats the best battery period. But i can't lay it on its side so.

Have you looked at the odyssey brand of batteries? http://www.odysseybatteries.com/

I just installed the PC1200MJT in my 93 LX and it is great. I have used them in Jeeps before and they seem to last longer than the Optima.

Well so far in the last 3 years I have gone through a Optima Yellow, and two Exide Extreme Duty batteries. I used to be a believer in the deep cycle spiral wound batteries but now I think they suck.

The original Motorcraft lasted 5 solid years through the harsh winters we get here, even though it was in storage. It always started. Do yourself a favor and buy a decent normal battery and spend the rest on something else worth while.
