Currently I have a very tires 1984 5.0 motor in my 68 cougar. I would like to put a roller motor in. I'm going with a late 80s / early 90s 306 w/ a roller cam. I've got some heads froma 96 explorer (gt-40) w/ 66cc combustion cambers. I'm going to port the heads and put in better springs.

What are my options as far as pistons go. Can I take a little off the surface of the heads and deck the block to get good compression? I'm shooting for about 9.5:1 compression. Should I just get a piston with a dome. Which would be better? Which would be cheaper? I want good quench.

I'm worried about taking too much off the block and heads and then the intake won't line up right. I'm going with and edelbrock RPM intake w/ a holley 4160 600 cfm. I'm also using shorty headers. I haven't decided on what cam yet. This is all going in front of a T5 in my 68 cougar.

thanks
Austin
