ordered hood pins, have question

They can go anywhere you want to mount them...
If you didn't want to do it yourself...I'd take it to a body shop.

They can go anywhere as long as you can get the scuff plates and pins to align properly. I put mine way out near the edges of the hood and I didn't get the angle and/or rotation of the scuff plates correct and they were off a bit, but functioned. I used the factory holes just outboard of the rubber hood stops on the radiator support. IMO, they look much nicer further out than closer to the center of the hood. One of the easiest ways to mount the pins is to get the brackets that mount to your upper radiator support.

I have the shelby hoodpins, I mounted brackets onto the radiator bracket that extend toward the front of the vehicle maybe 2 inches. Had to cut wholes in the plastic radiator cover as well for the brackets, then put the pins in, and greased the tip of them, shut the hood and that was my point to start.

I had to drill into a cross brace for the hood so I was drilling at a 45 degree angle to the hood to start off with...disgusted me.

then hearing my brand new hood, grinding and chipping away...I almost puked.

But all in all it turned out well.




There are four screws holding the billet plate to the hood, since the hood was slightly curved, if I used all the screws (same length) it would dent the hood, so I had to go to a local hardware store and get half inch longer screws for the rear two holes of each plate, just to reduce the denting.

I am pleased with them so far, the left pin which was tight before now slides through the whole loosely, so I will have to adjust that...which is a pain.

Yeah, Wind, I don't think there are any alignment issues when mounting them there with the brackets
I had no probs drilling through the bottom layer, BUT...once you poke that small hole through the top layer...no turning back! However the hole required for the pin to go through is nowhere near the size of the scuff plate, so all is good

I liked the placement of the pins here as they seem too close with the brackets on such a wide hood...

john, got an underhood shot of the exact location you used?

I am actually going to be installing my hood pins ( just like windfarmers only I powder coated mine black) on Thursday.
I have the GTS-3 Hood from Octane Motorsports and the hood pins from Partscheap.com

I am going to take all kinds of pictures of the install and I decided to go with the holes next to the rubber stops on the outer edge of the hood.

I want to post the process for everyone else to see but I can't figure out how to post more that 2 attachments!!! CAN SOMEONE TELL ME ANOTHER WAY TO POST ALL INSTALL PICS???

Real quick KOOLDAWG, you did have to take out your headlight to get to the underneath side of those holes right?

Thanks man, Hopefully I can post some good pictures of my install to share with everyone, maybe now I can update and show off my car and the stuff I have done to it. I will play around with them tomorrow, so don't be surprised to see a post about what my car looks like so far

How do you get the pictures of your car on the bottom of your post? I have tried to figure that out, but can't.

The best I have, but posting the fullsize pic, it's easily seen...and you can see the hole in the underside of the hood as well.

No, I used a Dremel and cut out slots on the back side (engine side) big enough to get an open ended wrench in. No pics of that, sorry It wasn't pretty, but unless you stared at the right angle...you'd never know they were there
