ORDERED MY 4.10's

....what else do i need? I need to fix the speedometer and i need it pretty much dead on so do i do this with a chip like superchip or is there anyway cheaper to do it? Ive gota a 97 auto GT so i guess i need to adjust the shift points. Which chip will do this for me? thanks cant wait til i get them.

sorry accidently posted this in the 5.0 forum earlier as i was reading.

To my knowledge all you need to do is get a Speedcal to adjust your speedmoter/odometer. But I think there's a gear or something for up to '98 that you can get instead. I just ordered my Speedcal late Friday since I have to be going 92mph to be doing 70. I need to fix that cuz I don't like it that way. But that's really all you need for gears. You might want to make sure your gears come w/ a shim kit since your car is a 97.

You also need to fix that so you don't put anymore imaginary miles on your car :p I think pre 99 GT's just need a gear to fix the speedo, a lot cheaper than a speedcal.

I like all the gear threads because I'm still stuck between 4.10's and 3.73's, and I usually learn something new about them.

Yes my odometer is off by approx 25%. So in my sig where I have my clutch break-in miles I adjusted the miles on my trip odometer by multiplying that # by 0.75. That should be close to my actual driven mileage. I sure hope I get that Speedcal from Brothers Performance this week. I have a decent sense of speed so my Speedometer being off is not a big deal. Neither is the odometer since I won't ever sell my car.

I got a new DS and 4.10 sitting in the living room. Waiting for a good time to install. I also plan on sending my ECU to cobra killer (tim) at T&J performance to fix my speedo and tune other stuff :nice:

Right now, waiting for the new sequentail light module for the passenger side that I literally burnt it up. :nonono:

With a 97, you can get a gear really cheap.I bought a programmer for mine to fix the speedo and to get a few ponies in the process. It makes sense for 99+, but I would suggest a chip for the shift points and a gear for the speedo.Probably the cheapest way out.A lot less effort and more options with a programmer, but the price probably doesn't justify it for pre-99.

BLK2003GT, go with the 4.10s unless you are adding a power adder.I love mine.

I don't think what CobraKiller does fixes speedometers/odometers. I could be wrong. Please correct me if I am. That's just my knowledge.

Thanks alot guys for your help keep the good advice coming. Where can i get the little gear tooth at? Alos how much did you guys pay for your install? and if the shims dont come with it where can I pick some of them up as well. Sorry for all the questions just making sure I do this right.

My mechanic charged me a little over $200 for the install on Thursday. He got the shim kit as it was him that advised i get them. He said depending on the age &/or mileage you should use a shim kit & after the install he assured me that he did in fact need them. My car had 43000 miles. I'm not sure where to get a shim kit though. My mechanic said you can request for the company who you order the gears from to send you a shim kit, likely not free.

Ok i was searching on the site i ordered from and they have several kits for sale. Kit #1 includes the following:

KIT INCLUDES PINION & CARRIER SHIMS, CRUSH SLEEVE, PINION SEAL, PINION NUT, RING GEAR BOLTS AND COVER GASKET.

they also have the friction modifier and 23 tooth gear so im all set once i order those. Is that all i need other than a chip so i dont bounce of the rev limiter lol? btw how the heck and where do u install the speedo gear is tha somthin the installing boys will do/? thanks

The Ford racing ones come with better packaging (good styrofoam package), and the other ones come in this white box that aren't packed well at all. I put side by side though and they weigh the same, material looks the same.

I buy the FRPP ones because that package thing is pretty important for shipping them to customers. So you beat 139.99$ shipped with those guys?

Yeah, I sell them for 139.99 and just ship them free, I think thats pretty competitive. Tired of seeing all these other vendors varying their shipping costs completely depending on how much profit they want to make on an item. I see some stores shipping things for double the price of others for the same item to the same location. Just totally randomized shipping costs.

The ones I got were not packaged with styrofoam
