OK some background. This is the first car desision I've made on my own. With that said, I'm ready to buy a mustang. I'm Looking for a Dark Blue standard options 06 gt Deluxe. But only one dealer in my area has a 06 Gt deluxe with standard options and its red. I hate Red. They have a few Auto's as well but I will not get an auto I refuse.

So I've heard people talking on this forum about placing there orders and reciving their orders ect ect, and I was wondering how that worked? Someone said they would stop taking Orders in May 06. So my question is. How do I order one? Do I have to go down to a dealership or what? Also, Do you get exactly what you want? And do they totally nail you on price becuase it was a speacial order car?

If anyone could help out a first time buyer here I would be very Appricative.

Plan -A-

If your local Ford dealer is a large one, ask them to search for the car you want and (if they can find one) have it shipped to you on approval. There are cars scattered around the country that might not be moving for the dealers who have them.

Two problems with this strategy though....

#1, the car that you are looking for might not currently be available.
#2, the dealer is going to be far less likely to sell below MSRP after spending time and money in looking around for the the car you want.

Plan -B- might be to get online and find the car you want yourself and fly out to purchase it ... in that case the dealer is far more willing to work with you / plus you'll have the pleasure of driving it home!

This is the way to go...I waited almost to late at the end of the 05 production run to decide on what color so I searched all the large dealers online and got one of the last Sonic Blues out there. :)

Plan B Sounds good. Can you suggest a few zip codes or a good way to look up dealers around the country? The offical fors site isnt that friendly in that manner.

Worked fine for me, I just looked up zip codes in the areas i was looking in. ( Indiana, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Ohio) Then I did a dealer search for those zip codes and wrote down all the contact and location info in the areas I was willing to drive. (printer wasn't working) I spent a Saturday afternoon calling everyone asking them what they had in their inventory explaining I was calling every dealership in their area and asked them how much over invoice they were willing to sell me an '06 for. This was last September and I had offers from 5,000 over MSRP to 500 over invoice. This was without any haggling on prices, which I hate doing anyways. I ended up deciding to order a '07 instead from one of the dealerships, but probably could have got a little better deal this time of year buying from the lot, although I am not sure much better and it probably would have had options I didn't want. The problem is the near 4 month wait from now lol.

It's too late to order an 06.

07 production startup is only 7 weeks away.
If you want to order a car you'll be be better of with an 07 anyway.

As others have said your dealer could get an 06 stang from another dealer, but they will be less likely to discount because they loose their holdback taking a car from another dealer. If they can swap a car on their lot that they want to get rid of you'll get a better deal as they'll keep their holdback. But the dealer will normally want some extra $$ for the hassle of getting a car from another dealer. They'll have to paysomeone to go pick it up too.

Thanks For all your help everyone. Im gonna make a couple phone calls and see what I can get with a 06-07.

Also I did some zip code searchs for dealers inventorys (about 30 between Ohio and Indianna) and only the Red car i mentioned in my first post gets anywhere close.

Anyway thanks for all the input guys. I'm real excited to own a mustang.

I recommended to pre-order becuz another Stang owner had to wait 10 months to get they're 05 in Sonic Blue...they waited too long to get the ball rollin and there was only 1 with the options they wanted. Just my $.02:hail2:
