I currently have USAA for auto insurance...but apparently they only insure collectibles as 2500 miles a year, must be garaged, cannot be used for general transportation.

Who do you all use?

Ron

I'm with Progressive. I only have basic liability on my 67, so I'm painfully aware that I'm driving on borrowed time. However, Progressive has no stipulations on how I use my 67. They'll insure it for it's agreed-upon value, but I'd need to get it appraised, receipts listed, etc, and I haven't gotten around to it because although I drive it as often as I can, it still isn't that often. I can't use a company like Hagerty because there are 2 licensed drivers in my household, and only two vehicles, including my 67...there'd have to be one daily driver vehicle for each person before they'd insure my 67.

I use Hagerty and have been happy, but I have had no claims. I pick the miles used, the value of the car, etc. Of course, they have to be sure that this is not a daily driver, hence the number of drivers rule listed above.

Their insurance is so cheap, I can see why they do that. People having daily drivers with them would put them out of business.

I have mine insured with progressive also. Like Snail said, there are no stipulations, but they charge you just as much as if it wasnt a recreational vehicle or classic. At least, they do with me. I didnt need to provide any receipts or appraisals to get mine appraised. I said I wanted it insured for $7500. They never asked if it was in pieces :) I had to get it fully insured because I took out a loan to finish it.

I have AXA

liability coverage up to EUR 2.5 million, full collsion/theft coverage up to the replacement value of the car (USD 34k), medical coverage for driver and one passenger up to EUR 20k each, damages for driver and one passenger up to EUR 10k each. Deductable is EUR 250 per claim. Mileage is limited to 7.500 km per year and cover is throughout all of Europe plus any land touching the Mediterranean Sea.

Here is the crazy part; My annual cost for this policy is EUR 87,00 per year. I still cannot figure it out but why question a good thing?

I have no idea how much a euro is worth, so I dont know if you are getting a good deal or not?

and...I cant believe that the insurance company has your car valued at $34k. Must be the location?

1 EUR = $1.23 right now. Trust me, I am getting a good deal.

As for the valuation, the car is insured for replacement value. I bought the car for $13.5 and put over $20k into it (brakes, new engine, new suspension, new wheels, tires, etc). All I had to do was show the appraiser the receipts and point to the items on the car and he bowed his head to my number. Location does have something to do with it as these aftermarket parts usually cost 60% more in Europe than in the US. For example, I just bought a new MSD 6AL ignition, Billet Pro-Street distributor, coil, autolite plugs, and MSD 8.5 mm wires from Jegs for $700 plus shipping to the NL. I also had to pay EUR 162 ($200) in duty on these items. This brings the total cost to $900. Here, these parts would have cost me over EUR 1200 (or $1475). The appraiser factored into his assessment the cost of the aftermarket parts.

so you pay 87 EU per year for insurance on the stang? Sounds like you are getting a good deal seein as that would factor to about $115 or so in the US per year. I pay that per month on my stang

allcar's right: you dont' have to give Progressive receipts or an appraisal to get insured for an agreed-upon value. However, you'll want to have very good records, photos, and an appraisal if you want to have a hope of getting your "agreed upon" value payout when/if you total the car or it's stolen.

I have Liberty Mutual.

I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About two months ago my hood came up at speed...
I expected the usual bs about: it's not worth that much, we'll have to toal it and you can buy it back, you HAVE to have the work done at our shop, etc, etc....
Instead the lady called, very polite (wow!) asked if I could take it to a shop to have it looked at, if not they would come to my home to do it, I told her it was driveable, just REALLYYYY ugly.
The guy at the shop was a mustang freak, we bs'd for like an hour, he appraised it and faxed it off to the company. (this is like 3:00pm)
So the next day I call about 1:30-2, just after lunch and ask if the fax came through ok? She checks on it, comes back and says "Oh yes, we got it yesterday afternoon, and you check was mailed out in this mornings run"

...well i about fuggin fainted. no hastle, no bs, no lies, ...something must be wrong.

So I asked her why things went so smoothe, and asked if this was some kind of fluke? She laughed and explained that they get asked that alott. I asked why they didnt hastle with me about the value (like others have in the past), she used terms like "sentimental value" (yes an insurance person actually said that) and "easy as possible".... I was at a loss for words, and believe me that doesn't happen very often.

Anyhow, so for what it's worth, I am now sworn to be a loyal Liberty Mutual customer for as long as they will have me.

I am getting a very good deal and I still cannot understand it. When I moved over here, i wanted to bring my F-150 with me. I was paying $1500 a year in insurance on the truck through Geico when I lived in Ole Virginny. I was quoted EUR 4500 a year to insure the truck over here!!! Now I also have a Sebring here and I was paying EUR 900 per year on it for full coverage with the same company. I asked what accounted for the huge difference and was told that because the truck was so heavy, if I hit a Smart car, I would crush it like a pop can so the costs of a payout assumed that the other driver died. I pointed out that if I was hit by somebody in a car, I most likely would not be injured. They were uninterested in this counter-point.

I have USAA on my cars. I only have liability on my vehicles right now (if you saw my cars you'd understand). USAA has told me that I can insure the Mustang for a value, that I can just state a value and they will cover it for that.

I only manage to get about 1,000 miles a year on the car, so that probably helps me.

state farm. $13,000 worth of full coverage on my 66 with extra coverage on other peoples cars (up to 100k) for $65 a month. Think about hitting a 125k car and totaling it. Most standard insurance companies only insure to 50k. It costs maybe $3-4 extra a month for this coverage. I drive a $133k car (when new) and if someone nailed me and totaled it I might be screwed. Piece of mind is very important to me.
