I recently was putting my car through its paces when i went to shift into fourth at wot I missed the shift and then the throttle stayed stuck at wot, pinned the needle at 7000 rpm. Aftewr about 5 seconds I tapped tthe pedal and it came unstuck. I then trie to get it to stick agian in diff gears and it did the sam e thing sticking at wot. i did this about 4 times ( )then i finally got to work checked the linkage and it was working find. Then i figured out what the problem was it was my floor mat pinning the pedal only at wot . Do you guys think i did any damage???? Also a couple weeks later my car started to run like crap. Idleing low and running hotter than usual. Before my car would come up to 180 and wouldnt go beyond that. It was heating up over a notch higher on my guage past the halfway point on it. I was do for a tune up so I just had that done. The idle is fine now and the overheating is a lil bit better . NOw it goes almost to hte half way point then cools down to just above 180. I also heard like a clicking soun=d coming form both exhuast pipes that inever had before . Any thoughts??? THanks Oh yea ,shoulnt my rev limiter kicked in ??

I did the same thing a year or so ago. I let my Dad drive the car and I was in the passenger seat. The gas pedal got hung up in the floor mat. My tach needle was stuck at redline for a week. It eventually dropped back down. I was worried about damage, same as you. I got lucky. My car is fine. The rev limiter did kick in. Yours should have too. It probably did, you just probably got caught up in the moment and didn't realize it. When it bumps the limiter, the engine cuts spark, so it sounds like crap. Waaaaaaaaaaaaabababababababababa. Like that.

YESSS!!!

WAAAABABABABABABABBABABBBAAAAA...
I love that sounds.... But I never hear it from my mustang... My 450 seems to hit it alot.... But its easier to hit it at 10,500 rpms than at 6,100....

But yea I doubt your hurt anything... That is what the rev limiter is there for.. Hopefully it worked properly..

well depending on your springs you could've had valve float.. which isn't necessarily bad but on a roller motor it probably isn't the best. But the temp. should come up a little if you just got it tuned because of the low coolant in the engine and then the t-stat opening and letting it in. Hard to say if any damage was done, as long as she ain't smokin' then don't worry about it.

Ouch, scary moment for sure. Might want to look into that 'pedal' mod similar to this:

I'm sure your Rev limiter kicked in before it could really damage much of the engine unless you have it raised from stock values.

I did end up doing that same mod on my cable to prevent this from happening again. I just used two zippie ties, though. The only problem is, with the gas pedal almost as high as the brake, it's easy to accidentally push the gas in along with the brake if you're not careful.

You still have cats? They start to pop for a few minutes after shut off when they are getting clogged up.
That would also contribute to higher operating temps.

Actually, the factory limiter cuts fuel, not spark.......not a good thing.

Yeah, it's definatly fuel. You can by pass it technically but I wouldn't just from a safety stand point.

I've also had the gas pedal get caught under the carpet. My tach was stuck well past 6K for a few days, but then just started working again on it's own. Will definitely have to look into that mod that raises the pedal.

Whoa! It cuts fuel? I stand corrected. Thanks for the info. guys! BTW the pedal mod can also be aggravating if you park on an incline or decline. When you get in the car to fire it up, it's easy to catch the corner of the gas pedal with your brake foot as you press the brake to keep from rolling. It can be embarrassing to accidentally rev your engine at startup. Do the mod, but be warned.
