overheating could be due to fan????

I am using a afco aluminum radiator with a 160 thermostat and a perma cool electric fan. My upper rad hose blew off, my pressure must of built up sky high, and at the time, my temp gauge was not working (just went to the carwash) 20min max ride both ways.... Could my fan be the problem? I do not have a fan shroud and I don't know if its flowing enough cfm... Its a 16" blade.. here is the link if you need more info... Please help as I need to get my stang together.... Is it possible that your thermostat is stuck? I was driving my car without any fan (don't ask why) for about a hour and as long as I kept moving I was fine. And that's was with the stock radiator, thermostat, and water pump with a underdrive pully on it in 70-80 degree weather.

When was the last time you changed your water pump? Is your radiator cap releasing pressure into the overflow tank?

Yea it could be.. I was told to get the 160 out of there and put in a 180 or so... But do I need a fan shroud?

The only problem with the 160's is usually the don't allow the engine temp to reach the proper operating temp which causes the computer to run the car at less power. The computer needs to get a temp of 180 to give it a good A/F ratio for more power. (anybody can correct my words on this, just trying to explain it easy)

Same thing I'm thinking. Wouldn't your radiator cap go before the hose blew off? Something isn't right.

You would think so.. Theres a stant 20lb cap on there, and the water pump is pretty new 3mos old or so... I would think... When the hose blew I was at an idle... I would of thought the cap would or relieved the pressure to... I may have to buy a new radiator cap. What does everyone use... 327 stroker heads stage III yada, yada in my car... So nothing in regards to the fan? You think its flowing enough cfm? Im not sure... but I hate when it happened. I had to call a damn flatbed to get it back to my house

I use a 16lb cap on my 302. I 'm sure it must be different for a 347 though. When my car used to over heat it did so when I was at idle. But once I start driving it'll cool back down. I changed the water pump and never had the problem again.

woahhhhhh 20 pound radiator cap is wayyyyy too high man. You should be running a 13lbs cap. That is probably your whole problem! At 20 psi clamps can fail and hoses can split if at that kind of pressure for any length of time. You're definetly not getting any coolant into the overflow with a 20 lbs. cap. Change it!

Ok, I will look into changing that then... I will leave the water pump then... I thought 20lb was too high. Thx for the replies...
