Well my car has been overheating this last couple of days. Just cruising, and on the freeway. Fan works. What can it be. I did notice that the radiator hose is soft instead of being full of pressure. Im hoping its the thermstat or the radiotor cap. ANy ideas? Im broke right now so i cant buy both Wait i take that back i have a 160 t-stat, but is that to low??? I live in Phoenix which gets hot. but not right now

Guero, it was 99* in Phx today - that's pretty hot.

Can you narrow it down at all? Like does it cool off once you get on the highway. Or does it cool off once you drive slow or are stopped in traffic?

Have you changed the fan thresholds with your TwEECer? I'd get that high speed fan coming on a lot earlier than stock if you havent.

Coolant level is okay?

If you don't use them, when you swap stat's I would not bother with anything but a Mr Gasket (or other performance) t-stat. I lowered avg operating temps ~ 8*F by just changing the stat (going from a new parts store 180, which takes forever to open and doesnt flow worth a crap, to a Mr G 180*). 10 bucks at your local speed shop.

You don't know what temp you're reading, do ya? Are both fan speeds coming on, and at the right temps?

Random thoughts/questions.
Good luck bud.

At night it wasn't that hot. But i would understand if it got hot if i was semi palying with it, but i wasn't. It was just hot all way aroung highway, low speeds. Whats weird is the hose does not have any pressure. Shouldn't it have pressure when i turn of the car?????

Getting back to cooling systems..............

The upper hose won't necessarily be firm. Do you have access to a cooling system pressure tester? You can pump it up and confirm that it's holding pressure. The difference in no pressure and 16 PSI (what your cap should be rated for) is ~48*F above the boiling point of a 50/50 mix of E/G coolant and water.

All that said, toss a new stat on and see if the hose gets firmer - as you're postulating, the t-stat might not be flowing as decently as it otherwise could. Your lower rad hose could also collapse at higher RPM's if there's no spring in it and the t-stat isnt opening all the way.

Good luck bud.

A nice new radiator is always cool but you might be ok for awhile. When it gets up to 115* for 40 days in a row, you'll know better. That's always a fun time to fabricate things anyhow.
