Overheating

What type of e-fan is it. Is it a ford fan or an aftermarket fan?

If it would be easy, toss the stock fan clutch setup back on just to test at least. You'd need to put the shroud on as well for full effect.

This will tell us if the fan is the culprit

then again, you said the overheating occurs at highway speeds? That would suggest to me that the fan is not the prob.

This was my point. If he runs hot at speed (my interpretation was yes), the fan is out of the equation unless it was pushing instead of pulling (hence why I asked).

Maybe the fan is a restriction??

The rad is new, so ir can't be from poor airflow. Is there a condensor with dented fins in front of it??

Agreed, check to make sure no debris is in front of the condensor, maybe leaves or something. Good luck.

I was curious about what E Fan he was using as I asked earlier in the Post. I agree it should not be the problem, but just wanted to know of the set up.

got a similar problem and didnt wanna start a new thread..
My car i can not drive on the highway without its boiling over and gettin ALL over my engine the only thing is the overflow tank is a litte cracked on top and has no cap... =( and it sprays out of the little spout on the side of the overlow the guage dosnt say its hot it does get around mid range its usually around the third line.. i just flushed the system and redid the thermo to a 180 cause the alst thermo was gettin stuck closed

The e-fan, i'm pretty sure, is aftermarket. I know that when it was running, it was blowing the right way, towards the engine, sucking through the radiator. I do know, and don't ask me why, when I was driving it around the temperature shot up to and past 250. I turned it off, and the temp stopped rising, and even went back down. yesterday, I took it off completely, and while driving around at around 45 mph, the temperature stayed around 210-230.

Not really. I've been going to junkyards trying to find a clutch fan setup with no dice yet. If I can't find a junkyard one, hopefully they aren't too expensive to buy.

good luck. over heating issues suck. i was lucky enough to just have to get a new radiator and mine doesnt even get half way. its amazing.

I dunno, i'm not convinced it's the fan completely.

On my car (with an SN95 e-fan), i can tuen my fan off and drive around and still not overheat. At highway speeds, i don't need it at all. In the winter time i don't need it. I really only need the fan when i idle in traffic.

Like i said before, my car hovers religiously at 188 degrees. If i shut the fan off at a dead stop, it will creep up, but the minute the fan goes on it flies back down to 188.

My combo is a Autozone 3-core rad, SN95 fan, Bosch water pump, 180* t-stat and a 50/50% mix of coolant/distilled water with some water wetter thrown on for good measure.

I also have underdrive pulleys.

So yeah, from my expeirence, you still have some issue with your cooling system. I still would do a compression test just to rule out a very minor HG leak

Thermostats can fail in a closed or partially closed position.

Hoses that are weak on the suction side of the water pump can collapse at speed.

Is there a spring inside the radiator hose?

What about the heater core? Could that possibly cause overheating if it's plugged? I'm guessing not but thought I'd ask. Sounds like you've tried everything else but that. Turn on your heater when your car is warmed up and see if the air is REALLY hot. If it is, then this wouldn't be the problem.

I'm wondering if you have a blocked or clogged water passage someplace in the motor. How many miles are on the car? When you took the stock rad out...what condition was it in and was there any nasty debris in it? I dont think the fan is your problem...i wouldnt spend time/money sourcing a stock setup. I think your problem lies elsewhere. A blown HG is still a possibility...especially b/c the thing gets so dam hot on the highway. 210-230 is still unacceptable. Try a good coolant system flush and see what comes out. Cycle the heat on and off during the flush to make sure you dont have any blockages in the heater core and system. Good luck man...i hope you get to the bottom of this.
