Hey guys I'm hoping that you can help me out. My car is overheating. It's fine at idle till it gets driven then spikes to the L and above. At first I thought it was the waterpump because it was leaking. I've replaced that as well as the thermostat because I thought it was bad too. At first the coolant wasnt circulating thats why I changed out the tstat. Now it is going through. I took it for a quick spin and it doesnt seem to be down on power so I dont believe its the headgasket. No fluids appear to be leaking anywhere to me. Also when the car is on L and above I turned on the heater and it blew cold. So possibly the heater core is bad? I wouldnt think that would have anything to do with the overheating though. One last thing is I put stop leak in the radiator sometime last year and this problem started well after that. Any thoughts?

id think its a clogged heatercore... look on the pass side of your engine bay on the firewall there is a little tap like thing.. when my core went it was leaking from there also check your pass floor boards

Yes the fan is turning on.

The floorboards didn't seem wet when I was in it. Will check again just to make sure. But would a heater core make it overheat?

i think you have air in the system. try to burp it out. run the car with the cap off and let the tstat open up. having an air bubble in the system can cause the car to over heat as well as cause no heat from the vents. you could also take the hoses going to the heater core and run water from a water hose through and flush the heater core out.

I also think it's an air pocket. Toss the front end on jackstands so the cap is the highest point in the system, remove the cap, and let it come up to operating temperature. Once coolant starts to flow, give the upper hose a few squeezes and watch for the level in the radiator to drop.
