p0153

so the other day my SES light turned on, so I took it to Auto Zone so they can scan the codes and I got the Infamous p0153 code (bummer) Now from my understanding its the passenger oxygen sensor by the manifold right? Now from experience if I were to replace just the one on the passenger side would it go away or should I just buy both of them? Do you guys have any recomendations? Should I go to ford and buy some from there or should I go and get some Bosch ones from Auto Zone? Thanks guys

Tony

take it from someone that has dealt with this before get a tune and be rid of it for good.
dealt with it off and on for about a year, had all my 02 replaced under warranty luckily which kept it away for a few months then it came back and had the 02 warrantied again kept it away for maybe a month then finally decided to get it taken care of and got an SCT tune ive yet to see it since.

alright I really need to get this **** fixed man I have replaced the sensors had my **** erased like 5 times and this F**ken light keeps coming on..I'm to the point where I'm gonna ditch my Bassani O/R xpipe and throw my stock one back on.

Now this last time I took it to Auto Zone to get the codes scanned again the guy told me that sense I was not running any Cats that my car was running to rich and that why my 02's would cause a slow response!! He told me that If I were to create back presure to motor by adding two cats my problem would be solved. Now before I go out and buy An h-pipe or Pro chamber x-pipe whatever with high flow cats I want to know if this **** is gonna stay away or not!

I'm F**ken desperate if anyone knows what I can do or if I should call ford and see if they can give me further information on what I should do or would they tell me off for not running any cats to begin with. Or if I should throw my stock H and get over it. Thanks guys but Im pretty pissed!!

i had exactly the same thing going on for a long time. i tried all kinds of stuff. finally , i noticed that the clips on the wires going from the sensor to the harness plug up top were not holding them, so basically the wires were hanging loose. so i figure what the hell, ill wire them up. well, they dont move, i have been code free ever since. keep in mind i had this going on for like 6 months... i dont know why the wiring would work, but the code quit. its worth a try.

interesting man, im gonna get under mine tommorow and check it out.

P0153 is Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor circuit Slow Response - Bank No. 2.

Which is the front DRIVERS side o2. Sounds like you replaced the wrong one. Swap the one you took out with the drivers side and you should be good to go.

Also, to Mark 5.0 an SCT tune usually turns off the rear o2's. It is posible to turn off the fronts for a car that is going to run in open loop all the time, but that would not be wise for a street car.

Yeah what jstreet said.
BTW I had a bunch of flakey o2 codes, when I had the exhaust leak by the manifold while you under there swapping out the o2 might want to double check that the connections are all good and tight.
Also isn't that the same code some throw with LT's ?

His code is for the front o2's. You suggested he get a tune to get rid of it.

A tune will not fix his problem unless he has long tubes that just aren't listed in his sig.

Well I did notice when I replaced the passenger side sensor that the drivers side was loose I could turn it with my finger..Would that be a good reason? I did tighten it and then I went to get my code erased again and so fare 17 miles since its been erased it has not turned on! Let see what happens Thanks guys if it comes back on anyone interested in a Bassani Xpipe :)

Loose wiring and untight sensors like you mentioned above seem to be common culprits for those code, along with exhaust leaks, etc.

For future reference, if the code refers to Bank 1, it's refering to the side of the engine which contains the number 1 cylinder. In our case, that's the passenger side. Bank 2 is the other (drivers side.)

Don't worry, it happens to me in almost every other thread.

The thing I wanted to get across to people who actually use the search function, and see this thread, was the Bank 1 vs Bank 2 thing.
