Howdy folks,

I just wanted to post-up a thread in case anyone else is having a similar issue. I've been having pages get stuck while loading. The page will load to the point of having the correct skin color but then they just stop. I have to refresh them 1-5 times to get 'em to load. Unlike other forums, Stangnet's pages load quickly so I know quickly if I am going to have an issue with a given thread.

I have noticed that sometimes an Adobe item wants to be installed (I get a browser pop-up noting that it was blocked). I kinda' wonder if this is the issue, though I don't see this pop-up most of the time. I've had the page-loading issue in the past and I think the cause was something similar. It magically (or through changes or staff intervention) fixed itself after a week or two.

This started a few days after you guys took care of those stupid noisy ads (thanks for removing those).

Also note that I'm the resident dial-up user on Stangnet. Also using IE 7.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to start a thread in case it's an issue for anyone else (so you know you're not alone).

Regards.

With IE7 (or any recent IE release), the browser won’t load anything below tables/frames/etc until all the data for the page has been completely loaded. If you are on dial-up for a connection, this “inability” will only be exacerbated by the amount of content it takes to get to that magic 100% to see the page you desire.

Firefox, and some other browsers, render the page based upon what is loaded. In essence, this “load as you go” feature might seem to make things faster when loading. The page loads as you receive, versus a major hang or delay, and therein lies the difference related to what you are experiencing.

One other thing, perhaps you know this too well, is the connection you are using to access the Internet is further handicapping your ability to see web pages within an acceptable time frame. Dial-up, or other sub 100-150Kb speeds, are not going to be effective at all in the future or even some sites today, given the notion that many developers, commercial interests, and ad servers are developing content based upon the assumption that everyone using the site will be able to load the site’s data within a certain time frame.

Let me know if this helps……..or not.

My advice: give Firefox a shot. At the very least, you’ll enjoy the spell check as you type.
