Just wanted some final advice on indexing my belhousing...

I've had a 3550 in my car for almost 2 years, but driven it very little as I have experienced the 70 mph vibration you have described.

I recently swapped the SROD bellhousing I had originally installed with a used Motorsports bell (part # used on the '95 Cobra R).

After the bell swap, shifting was noticably improved and the tranny whine disappeared, but the vibration is still present.

This weekend, I swapped the 3550 for a T5 that my neighbor was kind enough to lend me. The T5 is smooth as silk...

Anyway, the final question is whether or not it is possible to index the Motorsports bell? Do I use the Lakewood offset pins?

As I need to return the T5 to my neighbor, I will have an opportinity to check the Motorsports bell alignment. Hopefully I will find that it is out of spec - if not I think that I am going to give up on the 3550 and trade someone for a T5...

Thanks!

Its definitely possible to index the motorsports bell housing. If you find it is NOT within spec, you will need to buy the lakewood offset dowel pins, I got mine from Summitt. Your bell must be no more than 5 thousandths out. Do you know how to do it?

Paul,

I ahve read the write up, but am not sure about attaching the dial indicator with a magnetic base to the flywheel. How do you simply guess where the center of the flywheel is located? I assume that the 4 measurements will eliminate any centering error...

Thanks for the reply - congrats on the write up!
