Hey guys. Since I got my car it never had great paint. It was the typical black curse not to mention a fair amount of scratches and door dings. Well, over the last 2 years or so Ive have it, I've acquired more door dings from whos knows how many morons who feel that your car is not important at all and have zero respect.
With all this in mind I have been comtemplating having some paint/body work done on it in the future. I was thinking not til next winter however (winter '05). My plan was to do all the prep work myself over the winter and then have a friend of a friend prime and paint it.
Well, today just made me snap. My winter beater Ranger is in my driveway with the back tires up on ramps because i was replacing the gas tank. Anyways, I came home today and parked the stang behind it. I thought I was clear of hitting the Ranger and I was totally clear of the bumper, but what i couldnt see was the bottom of the tow ball that comes under the bumper. Needless to say my just painted this summer fiberglass Cobra R hood met the tow ball and got a nice wound. I am soooo pissed.
In light of this I think I may just do the paint and body work this winter because it bothers me more and more everytime i see my poor paint.
Ok, sorry for the long ramble, now to the questions.
1. I know prep work takes a LOOOOOONG time, but can anyone (I know RIO knows all about this) give me some estimates on material costs for prep work and what actually is everything I should plan on doing for the prep.
2. What should I do about my hood? Freshly painted with the little scrape/hole. (Not that deep). Does the whole hood have to be repainted?
I really dont think my car should be too bad time wise because I am going to get a Cobra bumper when I do it so that eliminates prep work on the bumper. Also, I have a vert so I have no top to prep. And aside from my incident today I WOULD have had no hood to prep.
Thanks for any and all help guys.
