I have someone that is going to paint my fender for me. He works out of his garage and is going to do it pretty cheap (I dont have space to deal with painting currently). I gave him the mustangs plus catalog with the paint code list for 67 as a springtime yellow code 8. Well his paint supplier could not come up with it. Had no idea at all. Said it should be a 2 digit code. Ok, I am pretty sure the supplier is stupid, but is there another number I need to be giving them?

Your right, springtime yellow is a 8 on your 67
Sounds like your dealing with a person that works at Advance auto parts, knows nothing exept whats in his computer. ask someone else. Napa parts, paint stores have the books to back that far.

Can you take a chip of the damaged fender in? I'd think due to possible fade, a match might be hard to do. Is he going to just paint the fender or will he blend the work?

I would tell him to go find another supplier. The PPG # for code 8 on a 1967 is 81510 and the Dupont # is 4699L. If you need any thing else let me know.

Kick ass, I knew I could count on yall! I dont really want to match the old color as I would like to work on fresh paint all the way around. Yeah, think the paint guy (behind the counter) is an idiot.

HAHA....what stupid counter people we have. My buddy went back to them yesterday and they guy tells him there was a gold factory paint in 67, but no yellow was used. He calls me up and is telling me this on the way down there to pick up some other stuff and I tell him....well tell the parts guy these numbers. Gentleman, I think we have a moron here! my friend is used to working on modern stuff so the idea of having to almost put a parts guys nose in it is alien to him. sort of like the guys that say they cannot look up a 67 part because their numbers only go back to 68.....and when suggested they look up the same part for 68 just look at you like you just came up with the theory of relativity right there in front of their counter.... Again, thanks much...I honstly have no idea how I ever worked on these things before finding the internet forums.

Ok, parts place is still nogo...anyone know a place online where I can look up paint codes to give them to them. I keep finding the ppg number 81510, but only listed on peoples sites. Is there somewhere I can show them via ppg website or something. Basically a "look here dummy, I put in this code and get this code back".

Man if they cant find a code I would really hate to see the information about paint they give out to their customers. I would really look else where for paint. That took me a whopping 2 min to look up and if I cant find it in a book I can call PPG and they will tell me. I have seen people on this board bash local paint stores and now I can kinda see why. I just want to let yall know that we are all not like that. I will give you all the info I know and if I dont know it I know who to ask. I think it is just crazy that they cant find a code for a 67 mustang. Its not as if there were only 1 made and only. I would take my money else where and at least spend it at a paint store that has a little more knowledge.

I am guessing it was either the guy I am having do the paint or the guy at that particular branch (they have several stores in town). I went into another one today and walked out in 5 minutes with what I needed. I probably could have had it in just a few minutes longer with only telling the guy "67 ford yellow code 8", but I went in with that, paint chip sheet, and a headlight bucket. Guy was like, ok, how much and what do you want. Back on track I guess....
