How about just wash it and use a buffer to get the stratches out. Some of the fading can go away after some good wax and a good buffer is used.

Original paint? If so, you are talking that it is 14 years old.

Wax is a sealer. You need a polish.

Start with a washing with a solution of Dawn. This will completely strip the paint. Now clay bar the entire car. Your paint will now be completely clean and virgin.

Polish the paint. Then seal it with a wax.
Make sure that you only go in one direction, not a circular motion. Only use micro-fiber towels and applicators. Never take the car to a car wash. Only wash in the shade to avoid water spots.

Most people say wax it. Wax (think of a candle) should only be used to protect - as in keep out water - not repair.

Rubbing compound or products made for scratch removal (i.e. McGuier's Scratch-X) work pretty well for taking out surface scratches...
