There are good paint strippers. Check out a company called Eastwood, they have some good stuff... maybe someone else can chime in. I was able to strip my extension pieces with laquer thinner and a orbital sander. Good Luck

John, I didn't use any stripper on mine for fear of damage or the off chance of some. you are going to have to strip all the paint off and start over like I did. I'm doing a resto project right now and had some spider cracks/ peeling on the ground effects and rear bumpers. I used 120 grit with a DA on low speed to get alot of the top layer off and then finished by hand. don't use anything too course or it will soften the edges and lines that mimic the door mouldings. Just take your time becuase it's a huge pia ( gotta love those embossed letters ) but well worth it in the end. They where then primed with "flex" primer and scuffed with 220 and prepped for paint.

here is pic of the rear bumper getting stripped.. when I was done it was pretty much bare.

ground effects primed ( for some reason I don't have a pic of them stripped)

scuffing with 220 ..

It can be done w/o stripper, it's time consuming but I didn't mind. The prep is going to give the final result, get rid of the old paint.
