Paint Shop VS. SEM paint :: Rollbar

I'm going to spend about $70 on supplies and such for the rollbar... so, is it worth it for me to go the DIY approach with the SEM spraypaint, or should I take it to a shop?

I don't know the difference in quality, length of time it will last, if it will chip, and fade characteristics... ANY SUGGESTIONS???

1) SEM paint:
-Self etching primer: for steel, has an acid to etch itself into the steel
-"Color Coat": fade resistant, flexible coat
-Either a High Gloss Clear Coat "Color Coat" OR their "TAC Free" to get rid of any stick
-about $70+

2) Paint shop:
-$$$ don't know how much

WHICH CHOICE???

If you want something that will last forever, I'd get it powder coated. Spray paint done right should be ok, but a paint shop could give a more durable finish.

I appreciate the responce.

That's what I was thinking but the rollbar is already welded in the car. I was thinking the same thing about the paint shop too, more durability... I just wasn't sure about the quality and finish of SEM. I've never worked with it before.

i can of black rustoleum and a brush works awesome and is VERY durable! my dad has painted the roll bar in his chevelle and the cage in his nova with it, and its very resistant to scratching...not to mention its like $5 a can...and you can do it in a few hours...just give it like 3 decently thick coats, and youll be good to go

Most "for metal" paints that come in a can have an etcher and an adhesion promoter. I always use the Dupli-Color stuff that Autozone sells. Exact same stuff as what my dad sprays at his bodyshop. (Centari or Chroma base) Just already mixed, and in a "spray bomb".

alright... this sounds good. Maybe I'll just go that route and not worry about getting toooo fancy.
