Painted my brake calipers

i hit what surfaces i could get to with the wiz wheel and used 500+ degree gloss black engine paint. did thin coats and set each one with my heat gun, it can be a little tricky kepping the paint from getting fish eye. If you get them nice and clean and have the heat gun ready you can avoid that problem. After the paint was set i just ran them up to work and removed all the paint from the pad contact area. Def will smell paint burning the first few hard stops you make but after you are golden.

Hey while i have your attention Where did you pic up your rear Sp 9000's?
that is a very odd size and i think the only production car with that size tire is the Mercedes ML50..... i havent been able to find them anywhere for under 360$ a peice

Good job KD! I am very thaknful that CA doesn't have to have two plates! The front just looks so much better without a plate. But hey if you have to have one no holes in the bumper is good. I will have to remember that for when we finally move out of this state and need two plates.

Sounds good on the brake paint job

I got the rear Dunlops last December from tirerack. They were $178 each on closeout!!!!! The local (family owned) tire shop I deal a lot with has them for just under $300 each.

i'm HIGHLY thinking about painting my calipers black but i'm not sure if i wanna try and make a red the same color as my car or if i'd look like a straight goober with red calipers instead of black.

I guess it depends on your car color, mine is Torch Red and looks good with red calipers.

the technical color is sangria red. close to candy apple but not exactly.

calipers

Does so called "caliper paint" work well? Also,maybe stupid question but did you have to totally remove calipers?

Not sure what exactly makes "caliper paint" work but I'm sure most high temp paints will work. You don't have to remove the caliper, but it will make it easier to paint unless you can get your car up on a lift so you're not laying on your back to do the underside of the caliper.

thread resurrection....

to the OP, very nicely done, nice ride and the black on the calipers looks great. I painted mine today, I was a bit squeamish about doing red, but it actually turned out great. Did about 3 coats with the caliper paint (in a can with a brush) and the whole process was easy.

Granted, it might look a bit poser-ish as big brake kits do have color as well, but I don't plan on dropping 5 to 6 grand for a caliper/rotor upgrade anytime soon so this will have to do.
