Painted my calipers!!!! Pictures...

Yeah so i actually did my own mod, my very first one. I know you all will probably laugh at the idea of painting calipers as a real mod, but hey we all gotta get our feet wet before doing the bigger stuff.

there are some b4 and after pics of the car and close ups of the calipers. It took about 6 hrs total including a long lunch, 2 trips to the nearest auto store, and general inexperiance. im guessing anyone who has done some mods to their car before could pull it off in 4 hours comfortably. The most time consuming part was deffinatly the masking. This is one step that you do NOT want to skimp on. take your time for it, when you paint them you will be VERY thankfull you masked everything off right.

which i found to be a really good price for the paint.

My only regret is that the colors you have to choose from are pretty limited... i mean there is one blue... so if you want blue.. you have 1 choice... but the paint itself is very well made so you know when your putting it on (i put 3 coats) its going to stay on that way.

Ohhh heres a tip, get a couple metal toothbrushes or small bar-b-q brushes along with another bottle of brake cleaner to insure complete cleaning.. ( i ran out of brake cleaner...)

you can get the duplicolor caliper paint for about $15. it brushes on, so there is not masking. you can be done in less than an hour, depending on how many coats you want to put on.

well this is a paint on system aswell... you still want to mask off the brake pads and the chrome/aluminum pieces so that it looks better... and the G2 paint is something that you never have to re-apply, i have heard that the duplicolor is more prone to cracking and chipping, while the G2 paint is more heavy duty and will last up to 980oF

but whatever, im happy with it

haha well fine... i guess you dont have to mask.. if your just super pro like everyone else you dont have to, but i did, because i didnt know if the paint was going to drip or how it would go on, so i didnt want it getting on my rotors... so if your a novice... mask it, if your pro like darkfire or bigcat.. you dont need to haha

BIGCAT, Duplicolor doesn't come in Blue. I tried several stores around here that carry the Duplicolor caliper paint and they only had red, black and silver. I used POR engine paint and found a nice shade of Ford blue. I got around the taping off by getting another set of calipers and brackets and painting them with three coats before installing them on the car.

you might be right, i never looked into the selection of colors. i posted it as an alternative to G2. POR-15 should last quite a while as well. that is good stuff and covers very well. i painted an entire engine bay with less than 1/2 PINT!! cant do that with regular paint.

i'm not expert, but I've done a number of model cars, so i guess that helps. trust me, i'm not a mechanical genious lol.

Or, you could go completely overkill and remove the caliper brackets, hardware, and pads from the car. Paint each caliper in the car and the brackets off the car. Oh, and don't forget to paint the rotor hats as well. And that was just to paint them silver cuz the gold color bugged me - rotor hats painted black.

Overkill is the only way

umm well i cant decide that for you.. infact nobody can but you. its personal appeal. i choose blue and couldnt be happier. but silver? they are almost sliver as is.. you wouldnt even notice that. so i would count that out. and black looks good if you have open wheels unlike the bullets that cover the calipers up a good portion. and if you really cant decide.. get a good quality pic of your calipers, and then post it in the virtual bodyshop and ask for a photochop... thats what i did.

I found duplicolor online in blue and yellow. Just google 'duplicolor' you should find it.

I have Tungsten as well... I'm thinking red because I have red interior. But also Silver is pretty much what the calipers already are and black would just not stick out that much so why bother? You could go yellow but I think red would look the best IMO.

Yea, I'm definately going with red for mine. I'm going to be removing the entire caliper assembly, mainly because I'm poweder coating them. Plus I want to take a sanding wheel and see how much I can smooth out the casting. Oh yea, I'm also swapping out the stock brake lines for SS braided ones while I'm at it ... overkill is the way to go
