Painting Calipers?????

Hi, is there any good spray paint that can be used to paint the existing calipers on my 1999 GT. The color of the car is Chrome Yellow, or canary yellow. I dont want to do a crappy job with yellow paint that is many shades off! What do you reccomend Could you have some mixed, and then just use a regular paint brush??.....Thanks!

you can have it mixed at a paint store to match your car. If it's a factory color look on the internet, you should be able to buy it in a sraycan, thats what I did.

I think any high temp engine paint will work. Be careful though.

Also, your car is Chrome Yellow (paint code BZ) which was used in 1998-1999, Canary Yellow is the same paint code but was in 1994 and 1995.

I love the painted caliper look. But I would worry about using spray paint because you can never really control all the overspray, and if there happens to be a gust of wind at the wrong time it would really suck. I cleaned the calipers with alcohol and made sure they were dry. Then I brushed it on carefully with a small brush. It took about 15 minutes total for each caliper.

First I tried automobile touch up paint, but that stuff was so thin it would have taken 100 coats to get enought paint on it. Then I used regular gloss enamel from the hardware store and it has been fine for almost a year now.

Here is a pic of what it looks like now, about 8 months after doing it:



Also, they weren't clean when the picture was taken so it actually looks better than this normally.

I used a can from pepboys, 500F engine red paint. It hasn't changed in a year! Looks good!

Black 96, you didn't use high temp paint?! My local auto parts stores have only the spray paint for calipers, do you know where (online) I could buy a can of high temp paint that I could put on with a brush instead of spray?

No I did not use high temp paint. Thinking about it now, that probably would have been better, but it seems fine and I haven't had any problems with it, so the calipers must not get too hot. I used regular enamel from the hardware store.

VHT is the best paint ever put in a can.....I think its made specificly for calipers...I use it on everything.....and it can hold up to 900 degrees F........Its good paint.......
Oh yeah its $8 a can......you can get it at the parts store.....

Plastikote high temp enamel with ceramic. Painted them last Fall, and they have endured the salty roads like a champ! Sorry, the fender wells were a little nasty.
