Painting engine parts...

Just use a high temperature paint, something that is rated at least 500 degrees. I used a duplicolor paint w/ceramic in it and it was rated to 1200 degrees and its worked fine, I painted, timing cover, intake, and my valve covers with it and its held up very well considering the paint was like less than $10.00.

If the paint isnt rated at a high enough temp, then its just gonna turn colors and eventually flake off, so whatever paint you go with, just make sure that its rated at the right temperature for your application.

I'm trying something on my engine parts while I've got the heads to my 5.0 off. I want to paint some of my engine parts in colors you can't get in high heat versions, most notably some of the dupli-color metallics. I first put down a few coats of dupli-color's High Heat primer. On that, I'm putting standard paint. Over everything, I'm putting dupli-color's High Heat clear coat. This is an experiment on stock parts, to see if sandwiching standard paints between high heat paint will protect the standard stuff.

I'm wondering how long this stuff might last. If it's gonna peel, anyone have any guesses when? Right away, a week, a month? I'll post back with my results, either way.
