I'm really considering converting into a black interior, I currently have gray/black. I have been restoring my 5.0 with parts from 5.0resto and wanted to know if anyone has used their interior paints. Does it come out good. I'm thinking if i don't convert to black to at least retouch the gray areas because some areas are different hues of gray. Any experience from anyone?

Yea i used dupi-color paint from autozone. Works great. Did my coupe interior in all black was porno red cant tell either just prep it right. I use lacquer thinner on it then sprayed it with paint.

Do you have any pics on how well the Duplicolor paint works? I also have a Porno-Red/Black interior and was considering using the Black Duplicolor vinyl paint to convert mine over to the much favorable black.

I redid my entire interior..every grey and black piece in there, the door speaker grills were blue as was the center cosole...take a look at my homepage and you can see it looks factory new, every person who gets in it can't believe how good the plastic looks after all these years. The product used was the vinyl dye and plastic laquer with prep from 50 resto, as long as you prep the parts good you CAN NOT screw it up, it will dry like the ass of the cat.

The prep is the deciding factor on finish and durability..clean it/clean it/let it dry/paint it/let it dry. Like I said I used the stuff from 50resto..did my plastic and vinyl and you can not tell it is not original in any light at any time period! it does not rub off at all and the pattern or grain of the plastic and vinyl shows through perfectly. I had hit the glovebox a little heavy and thought it might dry like crap but awoke in the AM and checked out all the peices and everyone of them came out perfect. One of my 5.0 bud's actually thought I had been buying new parts from 50resto and lying to him.

haha, cool deal man. I'll have to give it a try because I too have been debating over the use of the 50resto paints - now if I can just complete my searching for all the parts original to a fox body first :D

I was just getting ready to start a thread to ask about this..lol. I have already gutted my interior and began spraying my car today. I painted the majority of my dash and it turned out great. The question I have is there anything that you can put on it like armoral or something to help protect it from the sun and what not. I know I have heard armoral is not the best thing to put on your interior, but is there something else that I can use on the painted surfaces?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I also used the Laquer and Vinyl paint from 50resto.

Try meguires products armoral dries out the product it goes on and hammers in dirt and screws up the finish..why not just wipe with clean water and dust off every week. Nothing you are putting on the dash is "protecting it" it just makes it look pretty. The sun will not be stoped by a film of liquid.

Well if the picture in the catalog is right, it looks like the same stuff we use in the plant to paint damaged interior parts. The paint looks prettty good when it leaves the plant ,but not sure how it holds up.

Yeah I thought about trying Meguires, and I have heard the same thing about Armoral. I was just worried about putting something on it and damaging the paint. I guess the safest thing would to just wipe it off with water. Thanks for the help.

Do you all think it will look bad if I converted to black interior while still having gray carpets and seats? Or should I just repaint the gray? I dont have the funds right now to get new carpets and seats cause I saving up for a paint job.

Wow. You really are DMAN. That looks awsome! Did you do it in-car, or gut it and dye it outside? (do you sub out? :D )

You can also redye your carpet and seats, it's cheap- but it takes awhile and is significantly more tricky than vinyl. I have been holding off on dying my interior plastic and vinyl because I'm still recovering from my carpet dying experience ten years ago...

Stripped her absolutely bare and changed the carpet while I was at it. Under the carpet was um...NASTY old taco bell, BBking, unknown furry stuff nasty and many hours spent vaccuming and washing down the floors. Painted the parts in the garage in the winter with all the doors shut, wasn't much fun when I started but after some time with just me and the fumes hell we all just had the best damn time ever....WARNING!! do not paint parts in the garage with doors closed!! very very bad headache after the giggles were gone. :nono:

I'd go with this route as well. I primed mine before painting it black and also cleared it for a nice shine. Came out nice!! I'll try and get you some pics. Oh, I have all new Black seats as well. The amish did them for cheap!! lol

what do you mean about your carpet dying experience comment?
Well, I was trying to stain a blue carpet black. Lots of pigments in black, old carpet, I dunno what the problem was but it didn't want to dry. Like, for weeks. In my daily driver. I'm just glad I didn't try the seats. Even a year later, I could still make my finger black if I rubbed it hard enough on it. Followed the directions, but I think there was something else in my carpet that screwed it up. In this car, I just sprung for the ACC :nice:
