painting interior trim

hi guys,

i painted some plastic interior pieces a long time ago. i used some kind of standard black spray paint. then, several months later, when i was cleaning the interior, the paint practically wiped off. I want to spray some plastic in my 69 now, but i don't want to waste my time, like before. someone know a good lasting way to do this?

I would try spraying it with adhesion promoter first then using your paint of choice . I have used it on my 88 GT Mustang, in particular all the polyurethane(plastic) bumper and trim parts. It has been acouple of years now and no problems. You can pick it up at any body shop supply store. It should do the trick. :canflag:

I painted all my interior parts that was plastic in my vette with interior paint for plastic about 10 years ago it has held up great, I bought the paint from a Corvette supply house, On my 68 Mustang I painted the dash and door panels about 8 years ago it has held up great also bought the paint from Cj pony if I remember reight, Just make sure you clean it good before painting

I bought some plastic spray paint from Autozone, just did it a few days ago but so far so good.

There is a plastic prep that you can spray on the trim pieces that will promote adhesion. First clean the item real good with soap and water, then spray on the plastic prep and then paint it with a paint for plastics. NPD sells both the prep and proper paint. I've used it on my '73 Mach with much success for several years of use. I sold the car recently and the paint still looked as good as the day I sprayed it.

i have always used rust-oleum satin finish paints and i wash the parts in the bathtub really well with dawn and and hot water using a good stiff bristled fingernail brush

I painted the A/C vents in the middle metallic silver with Rustoleum, and the ones on the ends with black Fusion.

I know Killer Canary has painted the bezel around the A/C in a yellow Color. There are lots of things to do. If you have black..the silvery metallic looks good.
