Welp i met a guy today that a friend of mine knows. His father has known the guy since the early 80s and the guy has been doing body and paint work for all his life. So for 2500 dollars I get a really nice paint job that lasts...i dont have to do any prep work, he strips everything himself and strips the paint and fix EVERY dent on the car...all for 2500 dollars. And no this isnt some crappy 2 year paint job...i'm talking a really nice one that lasts. So for all you guys that said I couldnt get a nice paintjob for around 2500 dollars...i flick you off :D So hopefully by the end of september my paintjob will be finished...man i cannot wait

i never said i was going to build an engine...a while back i was getting information on engines so i could be ready in the near future...if you paid attention you would notice that in most of the posts i would say "i wont be doing this until about 2 years from now..."

FYI: MAACO has a new 5 year clearcoat which looks pretty good. $1200 They also have a production job for about $800 that a local MAACO owner has on his own truck, also looks nice. Their booths seem to also have current updates.

To get a nice job its all in the prep & application. I assume this fellow has a booth doing this job.

The best I can find here in Europe is $12,000 to sandblast, repair the lower door skins, prime and paint.

So, you're in the Netherlands? $12,000 sure seems high, they probably really don't want to do the job. You may need to travel a bit to find someplace more reasonable. I always wanted to learn how to paint cars. I used to play around with it, but nothing too serious. For $12,000 you could take a lot of lessons :D

Your geography is correct

It is what I am being told by several different shops. Some of these places really do great work though. They want to do the job all the way and restore the car to concourse condition. They look at me like I was insane to have made the engine and suspension mods I did. One guy told me I ruined the car. Yeah. Well anyways. I will shop around and maybe take it to Italy if I have to. I would spend EUR 5,000 but EUR 10,000 is just way too much. (sorry to hijack the thread)

To each to his own....

Call me crazy, but I guess Id rather have a reliable car that performs really well rather than one with a new paint job that 'performs' with an inline 6. Just remember when you go to replace that engine (in the future) how that new paint is going to look by then and how many scratches it will get in it when you pull and replace that engine :)

(Speaking from experience)

yeah i know that i'm gonna have to find a way to protect the paint when i put a new engine in...whether it be taking off all painted parts around the engine bay or what...i'll figure that one out. And somebody above this wrote that he thinks the guy has a booth doing the stripping or something...the guy does all the work himself.

No, he wanted to know if the guy had a booth to do the work in, or is he doing it all in his driveway. A booth to spray in greatly cuts down on the amount of trash that gets into the paint (notice I didn't say gets rid of it all ;) ) Even at $2500, if he's doing it all and you get a great job with him doing it in a driveway, it ain't too bad. One of my friends restores old old old cars (like pre Model T) and does some insurance work as well. He has a 3 car garage and one of the bays is a huge one that he paints in. He only has a exhaust fan, no filters or downdraft, he does great work. But he takes the time to prep the area for paint, and mists down the floor so what dirt there might be doesn't get kicked up. A quote from him on a total job on my car including replacing one quarter and other rust spots in the floor and misc. dents was $8000. This included the underside of the car and engine bay and dash and interior panels. I would have to reassemble the car myself, but I would have a show quality paintjob out of the deal. This was a couple of years ago, I don't think the price has changed.
