Thanks for the advice so far... see Part 1: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=499669
I pulled the spout and checked the coil, and everything checked out ok.
Part 2:
I went out and bought a fuel pressure gauge. When I try to turn it over, the fuel pressure goes right up to 40psi, but then it drops off to 0 almost right away after I quit trying to turn it over. So, I'm thinking pressure regulator. To try to prove this, I pinched off the return line to try to artificially create some fuel pressure, thinking that would cause the motor to try to fire. No such luck, it didn't even try to fire... and the pressure bled off immediately after I quit cranking, as before.
2 things:
1. Is it normal for the pressure to drop off so quickly, or should it hold the pressure for a little while? I bypassed the fuel filter out of curiosity, and there was no difference (10 hrs and 2 showers later and I still smell like gas... has anyone ever been able to gas the smeel of gas off). Where is the pressure going? Back through the pump? Could I have an injector that's stuck open/leaking (if so, how do I test injectors)?
2. Am I way off down the wrong road? My other 2 culprets are the timing chain and the computer. Can I check the timing chain without taking the front cover off? And, is there any way to check the computer?
HELP!
