I've said in the past that I was going to buy a classic Stang. Well, I'm officially part of the club. I picked up a '70 convertible with a basic F-code engine. I paid $6k for it. What do you think? It's hard to tell everything from these pictures, but it runs. The floorboards are new. The only real rust issues I can tell at this time are the left trunk area (small hole) and a little near the torque box. So far, the rest looks good. The paint is another story. It looks like it got into a cat fight at some opint in it's life. There's gashes in some of the panels and it has it's fair share of nicks and dings. Not only that, but the original color (bright yellow) can be seen at spots due to the crappy paint job.

I can drive it if I wanted to, but it's a little scary right now. The brakes and steering is very sloppy.

Anway, let me know what you think (about the car and price paid, like was I had?). Oh, the end goal is to lightly resto-mod it. Let the fun begin!

CONGRATS!!!!

You will end up spending more time over here then ya think :D :stangnet:

Car look solid, hows the interior and the motor?

I'm already on this site daily and have been for about 5 years. I just didn't post much when I had my '00 GT. Now that it's gone and I have a new toy that I know little about, I'll be posting regularly with questions and updates.

The interior is ok. It's good enough for now to wait and do that near the end of the restoration. The motor is on it's last leg, at least that's the story I'm going with. It's never been rebuilt, but it runs. When first fired, it lets out plenty of smoke for about 30 seconds and then lets up and the smoke clears. I could probably use the car to mosquito fog the neighborhood if I wanted to :D The person I bought it from said that he took it on a 30 mile cruise a couple of weeks before I bought it, but I'm not that brave yet. As of right now, I haven't driven it any further than to the side of the street and into my garage after the delivery truck driver pulled it off his trailer. I'm a fairly big guy and I had to really push the brakes to get it to stop. So, it'll stay there for now.

Wow! If that car is solid, you made a DEAL!!!!!!

Replace all the steering gear, add Power disc brakes up front, some Magnum 500 rims, and drive it!! The 70 'verts are VERY hard to find, so do NOT heavilly mod this car. Bolt-in only.

I'm jealous......

It definitely needs a lot of TLC, but it appears to be a good and solid place to start. If it were any rougher, I wouldn't have taken it on. The key for me was to find one that was structurally solid and in basic running condition, because of my job, my 2 year-old daughter, and another one on the way in March, I have to keep things in perspective as for how much I can realisticly do in any given time period.

Let's see...here are my initial plans.

1. Replace complete brake system with 4-wheel discs and power assist (looking at MustangSteve brackets)

2. Replace entire suspension with a combination of stock replacement pieces and opentracker items. It'll be lowered, of course, and I'm gonig to run my Ford 2000 Cobra R's on it for a little modern flair...similar to BIG-MAC's car. I know I'll have front fitment issues, but I plan to narrow two wheels to fit.

3. Body upgrades, including front and rear wings and shaker scoop. It needs the little nicks, dings, scratches, and rust in the panels fixed and painted. I am debating returning it to its original bright yellow color and put Boss-style stripes (without actually saying Boss) on it in black OR change it to Black and do the Boss-style stripes in grey or silver.

4. Replace/rebuild engine. That's a big debate.

5. Tranny is currently a C4. I don't know what to do. I really want a manual tranny, but this is at the end of my list for now.

Sorry folks, I know this is a long post...but you could say I'm a little excited
