Hey.
I did search and found nothing that fit my current problem.

Long story short... (well as short as I could get it with all the info included)

Bought Cobra drove fine when I got it, I thought the clutch pedal was quite stiff. about 5 months later I get a loose (stretched out cable) I find out the previous owner had installed 04 Cobra Flywheel, Racing clutch, Adjustable cable and quadrant. I try to get stock clutch cable in, it doesn't fit by about an inch, so I put the old one back in.

A few weeks later it stretches out again and pulls apart at the firewall and bends in a "z" shape. So I get a new BBK adjustable cable and quadrant, it's still kinda tight to put on at the clutch fork, like I can barely thread a jam nut on more then 3 turns. I ask around and people reccomend to replace the clutch. I did that yesterday (centerforce dual friction). There was still very little room to get the jam nut on at the bellhousing. I also have another nut on the other side of the fork to keep the cable somewhat in the right place and hopefully take away any possibilities of it pulling out anymore and there is no play in the pedal. There is also only about an inch at the very floor of clutch. When I gave it more slack there was grinding when I tried to go into gears, with no slack I can get into gears. It's quite hard to get into gears, it's not grinding but it takes a second or two. The pedal does have less effort now but it seems to still be stretching again.

Recomendations? What might be causing this? I checked out the clutchfork and had a few others do so as well and nothing seemed bent.

I do want to go back to the stock cable and quadrant, but I am worried that there will be no room to get the cable into the clutchfork again.

Here are some quick shots of the underdash ( I didn't take any of the bellhousing connection or the fork or anything when I installed the clutch, I assumed the problem would go away) maybe something is not installed correctly underthere?

Is it possible the actual shifter is causing this? I did install a Tri-Ax and I think the cable stretching problem started after that, but it was a while ago and I don't remember.

I'm not wanting to take this to the dealer because I should be able to diagnose it but I also don't want to just throw a bunch of parts at it.

clutch fork pivot ball?

edit- and i dont mean to insult, but, are you positive the cable is routed correctly? through the motor mount, instead of over it.

that is one thing I never thought to check other then the fact that it moves freely, it was well greased up. I didn't get into it enough to check for wear. Would that cause there to be little to no adjusting room for an adjustable cable though? There was literally 1 finger (sideways) of room to install jam nut.

I had this same prob on my gt when I installed a steeda adjuster and quad, but I dont really remember exactly how I fixed it,I think I just adjusted the adjuster all the way down againt the firewall then installed cable then adjusted....but like I said I cant remember.I do know that the cable that came with the kit had to have a rubber piece removed from the part that goes through the firewall.

STOP USING ADJUSTABLE CABLES! You need a firewall adjuster and STOCK cable, then you'll be golden!

I want to use a stock cable. one problem I'm having is that the cable is too short. I can't get it on the clutchfork. It's about an inch too short.

Well on the stock cable you have to remove the part that goes into the firewal,if you have not done that...or at least thats what it says in the instructions that came with my steeda kit.I think the steeda site may have the instructions there, you can always look and see if there is something simple your missing. And I agree with the above, the adj cable does suck...I was just too lazy at the time to modify the stocker.

I have not seen that before, I'm reading it as I write this. It's very interesting so far and alot of things I never knew before.

Side note:
I had the car towed to the SVT dealer in town here and I'm letting them deal with it, I've tried this about 4 times and the result is always the same... stretched cable. Now if they fix it, (whatever they need to do) there will be warranty and (hopefully) no issues because I know it will have been done properly. All I know for sure is I'm getting the factory cable and self adjusting quadrant put in.

I'll let you all know the outcome on this one when I know.

Well the problem was something I didn't think was bad. The clutch fork. It was bent. I had nothing to compare it to though so I had no idea... Along with the flywheel being machined out too much (3rd time it was done) and the pivot ball was in less then pristine condition.
As well obviously the cable was stretched out (again) and I did get the self adjusting quadrant put back in.

that was one heck of an ordeal.

So tomorrow I'll be back to driving the cobra.

Ive done that before,so now anytime I do a clutch I replace the pivot ball and fork, they are not that much and its worth it to me to be sure that I will not have to do the work again.I DO NOT LIKE DOING THINGS TWICE.... And as for the flywheel I only will have them machined one time then after that ill just buy another.
