I put a new waterpump on my GT about two year ago when I did my timing chain. I noticed this morning while changing my oil that it is leaking some from the weep hole. I bought it at advance , I am just wondering if the chain store pumps are known for not lasting or if I just got a bad one? What sucks is I sold my daily driver 2.3 coupe last weekend so for the moment my GT is sole trsansportation And since I am busy as can be all this week I guess I will have to let a shop put it on. Surely the labor on swapping a waterpump can't be to bad.

i have an autozone pump and its working great for me. it was $35 and has a life time replacement warrenty

I have a pep boys pump. It's made by Bosch. Cost about $40 and been fine for 2-3 years

Probably just a bad pump I guess. It does have a warranty I went and picked up another one a little while ago. I will take the bad one back and get my money. I wish I had time to swap it out myself and then this would be a cheap job, I drove it to the parts store. It doesn't seem to be leaking that bad since my coolant level is still ok I assume it is just a small leak. I could "probably" get away with driving it till next weekend till I have time to fix it myself, but I hate to risk it you know.

just dont get a reman waterpump... but if it was me... and the leak is small and your not having cooling problems... it should last a week... they might charge alot just to do a water pump...i would try to hold out

I would try to stick it out until next weekend. Just carry a couple of gallons of water in the trunk just in case. I had a car in high school that I had to put a gallon of water into in the morning and a gallon in the afternoon. Bad waterpump. Drove it like that for a year and a half.

Diversified has new pumps for under 50 bucks IIRC - if you can wait it out and want something else, that might be the way to go.

I also might try and stick it out but that's always risky if you have to drive a lot. Mech fans are kinda tough on water pump bearings.

I have a buddy that owns a NAPA store and gets me parts cheap. When I called him to ask about a waterpump on my Bronco, he said to get a factory one since the aftermarket pumps generally last three years of less. I think I paid $58 at the Ford dealer for a new one.

True but the severe thunderstorms and pouring rain that rolled in as I was finishing up my oil change combined with not having a gargae or carport over my head kinda put an end to my wrench turning for the day.

are you guys talking about the main water pump that the fan bolts to if so thats good prices for them wow...

and if you've recently changed it, like a year or so, then it should come off fairly easily. Usually all the difficulty changing water pumps comes from old, rusted, 1/4" bolts. If they're new, it's like an hour or two job.
