Passed Emissions

Congrats man! And good news for me Where did you take it at? I've been debating whether to re-register back at my old address in a non-emiss county. Did you do anything in particular to get it cleaner... like acetone, octane booster, etc?

ima try to get mine through with just cats and a good tune hope i can pull it off

Don't use octane booster. I was able to drop the CO emissions by 80% with a gallon of methyl alcohol and timing at TDC. I know people use iysopropl (sp?) alcohol too, but you need to be sure you get the stuff that is 99% pure. Otherwise it has too much water.

You should avoid emssions if you can. The state is tightening the noose, though, so I do not know how much longer that will be possible. That is why I detuned my 11 second car. I want it to be emissions capable. The system irritates the social scientist in me because it falls hardest on those least capable of dealing with the additional financial and loss-of-time burdens, and makes them victims of unscrupulous shops. Now that I have gone through the process, I see how it works more clearly. Just call around to check the prices on aftermarket cats (more than $200.+ installation). Then look them up at Summit ($59) What a money tree for Midas and other chain shops like it. Those of us who know cars and have connections are able to save and avoid some of the victimization. I am not criticizing the need for clean air or reducing emissions, but how about making exhaust analyzers available to the public so we can tune our cars and get the emissions down without a third party?

I bought an old car to avoid future emissions, but I have not forgotten Murphy's Law: No one's life liberty or property is safe when the legislature is in session. =The laws could change.

I was a little woried, because they made me turn it off right before I did the test (its got leaky valve guides/seals) good thing that puff of blue smoke cleared out fast

The sniffer doesn't register oil.

as far as i know its 1980down in the south valley and 1975down in the north valley but people are telling me they raised it to 80 up here but i doubt it. if all else fails ill probly just get a real 5.0 car mine was a 4 banger to start with anyways

You are right with regards to the original source (petrochemicals) but hydrocarbons are unburned fuel. The oil burners you see going down the road with plumes of blue smoke from the tailpipe will likely pass emissions. I had a 73 Mustang that was going through a quart every 80 miles, and it passed.
