PCM fuel compensation

I remember reading that when the 3.7 liter engine came out for the 2011 'stangs, the control module was supposed to advance the timing to where the anti-knock sensors started to detect detonation, and then back off just a bit. If this is true, then the car would automatically compensate for higher octane, and take advantage of premium fuel. Does anyone know if this is true?

That is mostly true, and it doesn't just apply to the 2011 3.7 Mustang. The thing to take note of is to use the lowest octane gas you can without having any detonation. Using higher octane gas than needed can cause hard starts and it is certainly a waste of money if you don't need it.
