Hey guys, so I picked up a 94 5.0 the other day, and finally decided to get after it yesterday a little bit, and immediately I could smell burning oil. After checking it out, I noticed the Screen, Grommet & PCV Valve were all missing from the Intake. Also, there is no signs of hoses anywhere that would have been hooked up. So im not sure if he just deleted it off or not.. but...

What would I have to do to go about correctly setting this back up. I have the new PCV Valve, Grommet and Screen but am unsure of where to hook the lines up..

Any help or technical ideas here would be great! Thanks!

I am pretty sure there are three vacuum connections on the underside of the intake.

There is a small nipple that connects to the purge regulator valve in the EVAP system over on the passenger side up by the firewall.

There is a large nipple that should be connected to a "T" fitting. The PCV hooks to this "T" fitting.

Finally, there is a port / opening on the corner of the upper intake that connects into the same conglomeration that the PCV hooks into. Kind of makes a big circle.

Thanks for the information thus far. I know the port on the corner of the upper intake is plugged off and I'm pretty sure the one on the under side is plugged off as well.

Correct me if im wrong, but isn't it bad to plug off / remove the PCV on a car?

What intake is on it? Stock, Cobra, or aftermarket?
Does it have any open breathers in the valve covers?

A stock intake has a port next to the EGR valve that has a big hose running to the brak booster and two small hoses, one going to fuel pressure regulator the other going to EGR valve.
Under the center of the intake is 2 ports. Like said above, one goes to the EVAP solenoid and the other goes to the PCV, but is T'd into a hose that comes off the bottom drivers side back corner over the valve cover.

Unless there is a breather installed, then I would say it probably shouldn't be plugged off. A breather does the same exact thing (keep pressure form building up), just in a somewhat less environmentally friendly manner. That being said, have you noticed your dipstick popping out? It kind of acts as a vent system. Pressure building up in the crankcase will often shoot that sucker right out.

As far as it being "bad" -

Well, its there for a purpose. But, the valves do fail, which would basically be the same thing as it being blocked off, so I doubt it will make your engine explode or anything like that.

It has the stock intake on it. There are no breathers on the valve covers except the hose running from the Air Intake to the Oil Filler Neck.

The EGR valve is still on the car but all plugs / holes have been capped off.

No, I have only had the car a few days and last night was the first time I had it at WOT, and thats when what ever was originally in place of the PCV spot blew out and started throwing oil all over the fire wall. I did buy a PCV Valve and new Rubber Grommet. I did put it back in, but the ends on the PCV Valve aren't currently connected to anything.

Aside from the aforementioned dipstick launching, removing/plugging up the PCV system could also result in leaky valve cover gaskets and the like. I have a friend with a '65 fastback with a 289, and he said that he ended up having leaky valve cover gaskets with only a valve cover breather.
