If you have the cheddar, get Motorcraft if you can (I would at least use a Motorcraft PCV valve and grommet). Some aftermarket valves don't fit the grommets very tight.

I order a kit from ford 35 dollar, will be here on friday. How do you take the filter off ? take off the grommet out first then filter ? or filter first then grommet ? thanks

The filter is under the grommet. You pull the gromment, then use a magnet to pop the filter out.

That can't be good.
I figured I'd check back in and see how everyone was doing.

KGT, since it sounds like you haven't had the pleasure of pulling the breather/filter before, a telescoping magnet, long needle-nose pliers, a curved dental pick or a drywall screw are amongst the popular methods for pulling it out (ha ha, insert joke here. We're talking about the breather - that other stuff sounds painful)

You ordered a kit from Ford and they sent you a grommet in a Dorman package? The grommet is the most important part IMHO. The last one I got from the dealer was Motorcraft and the last one from LRS was also Motorcraft. That's weird.

Good call on replacing that hose. You might want to replace the other leg of it (at the T).
