PCV vs Breathers

I am adding new valve covers to my engine as part of my suspension build up. Since smog-laws are a non-factor for me. What would be better:
1) One breather and one PCV-to-carb fitting
-or-
2) Two breathers

Let me know what you think.

I'd go the environmentally friendly PCV route. A PCV does NOT degrade performance and if it does, you have far greater problems.

Another advantage of a PCV system is that the crankcase fumes are corrosive to your bearings and rings, so by removing them you will reduce wear on your engine.

Go with choice #1. If the 2 breathers can not vent the pressures adequately you will wind up blowing seals/gaskets.

The 2 breather route will also cause a big mess on the headers and valve covers, go with the PCV and one breather.

I have been running two breathers on the old covers, no blown seals or leaks, nor were there any messes on top of the engine. Mainly wondering if there was a power advantage....I am leaning towards the PCV route since it is environmentally friendly and it will help gain some underhood clearance (monte carlo bar!!)

I read that reducing crankcase pressure helps piston rings seal better on drag motors, like those breathers that hook up to a check valve connected to the collectors on the headers. The pulses of the exhaust helps to evacuate pressure out of the crankcase.

Isn't crankcase pressure caused by "blow-by" past the rings/pistons? (I'm just asking) In that case, wouldn 't that indicate top-end problems that would need to be addressed?

I'm still wondering what valve covers have to do with suspension???

Definitely go with option #1 and check to be sure you have baffle plates under the openings of the new valve covers, else you'll have oil everywhere! Just a friendly reminder......

Valve covers have everything to do with my setup. Becuase of engine height, I have to have everything is place to figure out if my export brace and new Monte Carlo bar will fit. The export brace has checked out, but the Monte carlo bar will hit the breather. So, it is use a PCV valve on the left side or get a custom made monte carlo bar. Or don't use anything on the left side, Or design a custom breather setup.

Does anyone know if the PCV valve will work if it is on the left side of a 385 series engine??

Yes, but "blow-by" is only part of it. The other part is the fumes released fromt he oil when it gets hot.
