My car emits a fuel smell (can smell it when idling, at red lights etc.) I thought it was somehow from my POS stock exhaust but I've since replaced it w/complete exhaust sytem hdrs,o/r h pipe and flows, new injectors, plugs (old ones were white on tips), plug wires and fuel filter. But it still smells the same? I have checked for any leaks=none. Could this be because I removed the smog pump or bad o2 sensors or a combination of both?

What about the O2's looking back at the previous owners maint. logs they were never replaced, car has 155,000 on it.

mine was doing the same thing. i thought it was the o2's and o/r h pipe making the stinky but on a whim i was going to change the fuel pump and sending unit (trying to fix a bad gauge, didnt work) so i bought a new tank and neck gasket spent less than 3 bills but now no stinky and new pump and sending unit. i think i got the tank kit from mustangs unlimited but id have to look.

Well I hope that is it, cause I definetly do not want to live w/the smell especially since mine is a vert.

check the charcoal cannister for crack; check its lines for cracks or breaks too.

a leak at the tank can be hard to find if the leak is at the top - fuel might evaporate before dripping.

i had a similar problem, turned out to be the rubber grommet that the filler neck slides into the tank. you could always smell gas but there was no obvious place it was coming from. so one time at the gas station i filled it up and look underneith and could see it leaking abit. turns out it would only leak when the tank was full the rest of the time it just seeped vapors

needless to say i fixed that one really quick cause i don't like the idea of gas dripping by my tail pipes
